Untitled Review
Engine and Performance
Pro (RWD): Features the new high-efficiency rear motor producing 286 hp and 545 Nm of torque. This is a massive jump from earlier models and makes the car feel much more responsive on the highway.
GTX (AWD): The performance flagship with dual motors producing 340 hp. It hits 0–100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.
Driving Dynamics: The ID.5 is tuned for a slightly firmer, more "connected" feel than the ID.4. Higher trims include DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control), which allows you to adjust the suspension between "Comfort" and "Sport."
Real-World Range & Charging
Battery: Standard with the 77 kWh (usable) lithium-ion pack.
Range (WLTP):
Pro (RWD): Up to 550 km.
GTX (AWD): Up to 512 km.
UAE Context: Expect a real-world range of 380–420 km during the summer, benefiting from VW's improved thermal management system.
Charging:
DC Fast Charging: Supports up to 135 kW (Pro) or 175 kW (GTX). You can go from 10% to 80% in about 28–30 minutes.
Plug & Charge: The 2026 model supports automatic authentication at compatible charging stations—just plug in and the car handles the payment.
Cabin Comfort and Tech
Software 4.0/5.0: This is the most critical update. The 2026 model features the much-improved infotainment system with a 12.9-inch central screen, faster response times, and—crucially—backlit touch sliders for volume and temperature.
AR Head-Up Display: Projects navigation arrows and speed directly onto the windshield, making it feel like the directions are floating on the road ahead of you.
Interior Space: Despite the sloping roof, the boot space is actually slightly larger than the ID.4 when the seats are up (549 liters), thanks to the way the rear is sculpted.
ID. Light: An intuitive light strip below the windshield that "communicates" with the driver using colors—pulsing for navigation turns, incoming calls, or charging status.
Infotainment and Safety
Travel Assist 2.5: Includes swarm data usage, meaning the car can stay in its lane even on roads with only one visible marking by "learning" from other VWs that have passed by.
Park Assist Plus: Can "remember" a specific parking maneuver (like your home driveway) and perform it autonomously.
Audio: Optional Harman Kardon 480W sound system with 9 speakers and a subwoofer.
Dealer and Pricing in the UAE
Price: In the UAE market, the ID.5 typically ranges from AED 155,000 to AED 195,000 depending on whether you opt for the Pro or the high-performance GTX.
Availability: While the ID.4 is the high-volume seller, the ID.5 is readily available through major EV importers and official channels in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Warranty: Generally includes a 3 to 5-year vehicle warranty and an 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty.
Best Suited For
- Drivers who want a European-built EV with a premium, quiet ride.
- People who prefer the sleek "SUV-Coupe" look but still need a usable boot.
- Those who value advanced lighting and AR tech as part of the driving experience.
Not Suited For
- Families with very tall teenagers (the rear headroom is slightly tighter than the ID.4).
- Off-roaders; the ID.5 is strictly a road-focused "urban explorer."
