2025 Xiaomi YU7 Review UAE
Battery Spec
The Standard and Pro
share a 96.3 kWh LFP battery, dual-sourced from CATL Shenxing and BYD FinDreams
Blade packs. The Max upgrades to a 101.7 kWh NMC pack from CATL’s Qilin range
with a 5.2C discharge rate. All variants run on an 800-volt architecture. WLTP
range spans approximately 640 km (Standard), 590 km (Pro), and 580 km (Max).
Real-World Range
Applying the
standard 20–25% UAE summer reduction, realistic range falls to 480–510 km for
the Standard, 445–470 km for the Pro, and 435–465 km for the Max. Highway
driving at 120–140 km/h with full AC load pushes consumption toward the lower
end. City-cycle driving holds closer to the upper estimates, particularly with
the LFP variants’ efficiency advantage in moderate temperatures.
Home Charging
The YU7 accepts 11
kW three-phase AC, completing a full charge in approximately 9.5–10 hours. On a
standard UAE 7 kW single-phase wall box, expect 13–14 hours. At DEWA’s
residential rate of AED 0.23/kWh, a full 96.3 kWh charge costs approximately
AED 22.15. In Abu Dhabi at the expatriate rate of AED 0.27/kWh, the cost rises
to AED 26.00. Note: China-spec units ship with GB/T connectors — a Type 2 AC
adaptor is required for UAE wall boxes.
Public Fast Charging
China-spec units
ship with GB/T charging plugs, requiring CCS2 adaptors for UAE public DC
networks. This is a significant practical limitation. The Standard and Pro
support up to 330 kW DC, reaching 10–80% in approximately 21 minutes. The Max
supports 507 kW DC, completing the same charge in roughly 15 minutes — though
no UAE public charger currently exceeds 350 kW. Compatible networks via
adaptor: DEWA Green Charger, E2GO, UAEV, and GreenParking.

Xiaomi YU7 — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
Nappa leather seats
with OEKO-TEX certification are standard across all variants. Front seats offer
heating, ventilation, and ten-point massage with memory settings. Rear seats
are heated across all three positions with electrically adjustable backrests from
117 to 135 degrees. The cabin features 36 storage compartments including hidden
umbrella slots in the front doors and a password-protected 13.7-litre glovebox.
Driver Comfort
The driving position
benefits from electric seat adjustment, rake-and-reach steering, and a
1.1-metre panoramic head-up display projected across the windscreen base via
three Mini LED screens. The 16.1-inch 3K touchscreen, powered by a Snapdragon 8
Gen3 processor, is responsive and readable in direct sunlight. Dual-layer glass
throughout reduces road and wind noise significantly.
AC Performance
Three-zone automatic
climate control with a standard heat pump addresses UAE cooling demands. Remote
pre-cooling via the Xiaomi app is standard. Ventilated front seats assist in
stop-start traffic. The Max variant adds an electrochromic smart sunroof blocking
99.9% of UV and 99.87% of infrared — a meaningful feature under UAE solar load.
Standard and Pro buyers should consider aftermarket UV tinting for the
panoramic glass roof.
Luggage
Boot space measures
678 litres with rear seats upright, expanding to 1,758 litres with the 60:40
split rear bench folded. A 141-litre frunk provides additional secure storage
for charging cables or valuables. V2L power export is available, rated at up to
6.6 kW for external devices. A magnetic accessory rail on the rear roofline
supports up to 144 W for roof-mounted equipment.
Infotainment
HyperOS 2, built on
a Snapdragon 8 Gen3 chip, delivers smartphone-grade responsiveness with
15-minute over-the-air updates. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are
standard. A rear 6.68-inch removable touchscreen controls climate and media for
rear passengers. Arabic language support in HyperOS is unverified for the
automotive build — Apple CarPlay with Arabic serves as a workaround. The Max
upgrades to a 25-speaker Dolby Atmos system; Standard and Pro receive 14
speakers with headrest units.
Safety
Seven airbags
including a front centre unit are standard. The ADAS suite runs on an NVIDIA
DRIVE AGX Thor chip delivering 700 TOPS, fed by a Hesai 128-line LiDAR, 4D
millimetre-wave radar, 11 cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Features include
AEB, automatic emergency steering, adaptive cruise with stop-and-go, lane
centring, automatic lane change, blind-spot monitoring, and 360-degree surround
cameras. Euro NCAP has not tested the YU7; the vehicle has passed C-NCAP and
C-IASI standards in China.
How Does it Drive?
The low centre of
gravity from the floor-mounted battery pack and near-50:50 weight distribution
deliver car-like agility for a vehicle of this size. Forward visibility is
strong from the elevated SUV seating position. Rear three-quarter visibility is
assisted by the 360-degree camera system and blind-spot monitoring.
Performance
The Standard reaches
100 km/h in 5.88 seconds — adequate for confident highway merging. The Pro cuts
this to 4.27 seconds, and the Max delivers a supercar-rivalling 3.23 seconds
with 681 hp and 866 Nm. Overtaking on Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 is effortless
across all variants. Wind noise at 120 km/h is well controlled thanks to
double-layer glass and a 0.245 Cd drag coefficient.
Braking
Regenerative braking
with one-pedal driving is standard. The Max variant features Brembo four-piston
fixed calipers with a 100–0 km/h stopping distance of 33.9 metres. Standard and
Pro receive four-piston fixed calipers without Brembo branding. Brake feel is
progressive and well-calibrated across all drive modes.
Autopilot
Xiaomi HAD (Highway
Assist Driving) provides Level 2 supervised autonomous driving. Adaptive cruise
with stop-and-go, lane centring, and automatic lane change function reliably on
well-marked motorways. The LiDAR and NVIDIA Thor hardware represent the most
advanced sensor suite in this price bracket. No Level 3 capability is offered.
Handling
Double-wishbone
front and five-link rear suspension deliver composed cornering. The Pro and Max
add dual-chamber air suspension with 75 mm height adjustment (147–222 mm ground
clearance), improving both motorway stability and speed bump clearance. The Standard
uses CDC variable dampers with a fixed 185 mm ground clearance. The 5.7-metre
turning radius aids mall parking, and the 1,600 mm height clears standard
multi-storey car parks.
Ride
On the UAE’s
predominantly smooth urban roads, the YU7 rides with refinement befitting a
vehicle 50% more expensive. Air suspension variants absorb expansion joints and
road imperfections with minimal cabin intrusion. The Standard variant’s CDC
dampers are firmer but remain composed. Over 200 NVH optimisations keep the
cabin quiet at motorway speeds.
Grey Import — Warranty
Xiaomi Auto has no
official UAE agency or manufacturer-appointed dealer. All UAE units are sourced
through independent importers such as Royal Motors Dubai. The China-market
warranty of five years or 100,000 km on the vehicle and eight years or 160,000
km on the battery is not transferable internationally. Warranty terms are
dealer-negotiated and vary. High-voltage servicing requires Xiaomi-certified
tooling and software access unavailable through independent UAE workshops.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Grey import units
ship with GB/T charging plugs, requiring third-party adaptors for CCS2 and Type
2 connections at UAE public chargers — introducing reliability and safety
concerns. Software updates, navigation data, and thermal management calibration
may not be optimised for Gulf conditions. Insurance loading is 15–25% above
standard, with some insurers declining Chinese-brand grey imports entirely. UAE
government EV incentives — free Salik tag, green parking bays, reduced
registration fees — may not apply to vehicles without official type approval.
Cost of Ownership
At AED 189,000 for
the Standard variant, the YU7 undercuts the Tesla Model Y Long Range by a
meaningful margin while offering a larger battery, more cargo space, and
superior ADAS hardware. For a buyer covering 20,000 km per year with a home
wall box, annual electricity cost is estimated at AED 1,100–1,300 at DEWA
rates, versus AED 7,000–10,000 for a comparable petrol SUV. Annual fuel savings
of AED 6,000–8,500 are realistic.
Insurance estimates
through grey import channels range from AED 12,000 to AED 18,000 annually —
substantially higher than official-dealer EVs. Servicing costs are difficult to
estimate without an authorised network; independent EV workshops in Dubai quote
AED 2,000–4,000 per annual service. Government incentives include a free Salik
tag (toll charges of AED 4–6 per gate still apply), green parking bay access
with a four-hour session limit, and reduced RTA registration fees — subject to
official type approval.
Depreciation risk is
high. Xiaomi Auto has no brand history in the UAE automotive market, and resale
demand for a grey import Chinese-brand EV remains unproven. The absence of an
official dealer network, parts supply chain, and battery warranty backstop makes
three-year residual values highly uncertain — estimated conservatively at
40–50% of purchase price. Buyers should factor this into total cost of
ownership calculations alongside the attractive running cost savings.
