2025 Volkswagen ID.4 Review UAE
Official Range and Battery Spec
Both UAE variants
share a 77 kWh usable capacity (82 kWh gross) liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery
on VW's 400V MEB architecture. The NMC chemistry is well-proven across multiple
VW Group platforms.
ID.4 Pro RWD: 550 km WLTP
ID.4 Pro 4Motion AWD: 521 km
WLTP
400V architecture with 135 kW
peak DC charging
11 kW AC onboard charging
standard
Real-World Range
WLTP figures should
be treated as favourable-conditions estimates. In UAE summer with ambient
temperatures above 40°C and sustained AC load, expect a 15–20% reduction —
approximately 440–470 km for the Pro RWD and 415–445 km for the 4Motion AWD.
Both variants complete a Dubai–Abu Dhabi return journey without charging in all
seasons. Highway cruising at 120–140 km/h on the E11 consumes more than urban
driving, but the ID.4's aerodynamic 0.28 Cd and efficient single-speed
drivetrain keep consumption competitive within the segment.
Home Charging Times and Setup
The ID.4 supports 11
kW AC charging via Type 2, reaching 0–100% in approximately 8 hours on a
compatible villa wall box. On a 7 kW wall box, a full charge takes
approximately 11–12 hours — sufficient for overnight charging. At DEWA's
residential rate of AED 0.23/kWh, a full 77 kWh charge costs approximately AED
17.70; in Abu Dhabi at the expatriate rate of AED 0.27/kWh, approximately AED
20.80. Installing at least a 7 kW wall box is strongly recommended.
Compatibility with DEWA and Public Fast Chargers
The ID.4 uses CCS2
DC fast charging, fully compatible with DEWA Green Charger, E2GO (including the
Saih Shuaib E11 hub), UAEV across the Northern Emirates, and GreenParking. Peak
DC charging at 135 kW delivers 10–80% in approximately 28 minutes on a capable
charger — competitive within its price segment, though it falls short of the
150–300 kW speeds offered by newer Chinese and Korean rivals. Tesla
Superchargers are not natively compatible.

Volkswagen ID.4 — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
The ID.4's interior
is configured as a five-seat SUV with a flat floor — a structural benefit of
the MEB platform — providing excellent centre rear seat usability. The cabin is
light and airy with good headroom and legroom for all five passengers. Rear AC
vents, a panoramic glass roof, and wireless smartphone charging are standard.
Interior materials are solid VW quality: soft-touch surfaces on key contact
points, with harder plastics on the lower panels.
Driver Comfort
The elevated SUV
seating position provides a commanding view of surrounding traffic on UAE
motorways. The driver's seat adjusts electrically with lumbar support; the
steering column adjusts for rake and reach. Controls are primarily
touchscreen-managed — physical shortcut buttons are minimal, a design direction
that some UAE drivers find frustrating for quick AC adjustments in traffic. The
12.9-inch central display and 5.3-inch digital cluster are clear and readable
in direct Gulf sunlight.
AC Performance and Cabin Cooling
The ID.4's dual-zone
climate control cools the cabin from 50°C+ to a comfortable level in
approximately five to six minutes with remote pre-conditioning via the myVW
app. Ventilated and heated front seats are standard on both UAE variants —
essential for UAE summer use. The panoramic glass roof benefits from UV coating
but ceramic window tinting is still recommended for open parking lots. Rear
passengers receive dedicated AC vents but no seat ventilation.
Luggage Capacity
Boot capacity is 543
litres with rear seats up, expanding to 1,575 litres with the 60:40 split-fold
rear seats down. There is no frunk — the front of the MEB platform houses the
motor and cooling hardware. The 543-litre boot comfortably handles family airport
luggage or a weekly Carrefour shop. The flat, wide loading floor and low lip
make loading practical for everyday use.
Infotainment and Tech

Safety
Advanced Driver
Assistance includes:
AEB with pedestrian detection,
adaptive cruise with stop-and-go, lane centring assist
Blind-spot monitoring, rear
cross-traffic alert, park assist with 360-degree camera
Travel Assist (combined adaptive
cruise and lane centring for UAE motorway use)
5-star Euro NCAP (2021) — proven
structural safety rating with established crash-test data
How Does it Drive?
The ID.4 prioritises
comfort and refinement over sportiness — the right priority for UAE motorway
and family use. At 120–140 km/h on the E11, the car is settled, quiet, and
composed. Wind noise is well managed, and tyre noise on UAE highway surfaces is
among the best in its class.
Performance
The Pro RWD reaches
100 km/h in 6.7 seconds — sufficient for confident motorway merging and
overtaking on Sheikh Zayed Road, but unremarkable by current EV standards. The
Pro 4Motion AWD improves this to 5.4 seconds, adding meaningful security on wet
Northern Emirates roads. Both variants deliver the instant, smooth torque
delivery characteristic of well-tuned electric drivetrains.
Braking
Regenerative braking
is adjustable and supports one-pedal driving via the B-mode selector on the
drive selector stalk. The transition between regen and friction braking is
smooth. Energy recovery in Dubai stop-start urban traffic adds meaningful
real-world range on the daily commute.
Autopilot Systems
Travel Assist — VW's
combined adaptive cruise and lane centring — performs reliably on well-marked
UAE motorways including the E11 and Sheikh Zayed Road. On older Northern
Emirates roads with faded markings, more frequent driver inputs are needed.
Active driver supervision is always required; no Level 3 capability is offered.
Handling
Steering is light
and accurate, well-suited to urban Dubai traffic and tight mall basement car
parks. The low battery floor keeps the centre of gravity competitive for an SUV
body style. The Pro 4Motion's dual-motor AWD adds confidence in rare wet conditions
and sandy desert approach roads.
Ride
Suspension tuning is
set firmly for UAE motorway use — the ID.4 absorbs expansion joints and speed
bumps without harshness at highway speeds. Rear passengers benefit from the SUV
body's longer rear overhang and balanced axle loading on the Dubai–Abu Dhabi
corridor. Optional DCC adaptive dampers further refine ride quality on the
4Motion variant.
Al Nabooda Automobiles & Ali & Sons — Warranty and Service Network
Al Nabooda
Automobiles is the official Volkswagen dealer for Dubai and the Northern
Emirates; Ali & Sons covers Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Both provide the ID.4
with a 5-year or 100,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year or 160,000 km
battery warranty — among the strongest coverage packages available in the UAE
electric SUV segment. VW-certified high-voltage technicians, genuine parts
inventory, and full OTA software support are available through the official
network. Service intervals are longer and less costly than petrol equivalents —
no oil changes, timing belt, or exhaust maintenance.
Grey Import vs. Official Dealer
Grey import ID.4
units — often Chinese-spec with different software builds — are incompatible
with UAE OTA update infrastructure and carry no Volkswagen warranty. Al Nabooda
has publicly flagged this risk. Official agency vehicles qualify for UAE
government EV incentives including free Salik tag registration, green parking
bay access, and reduced RTA registration fees; grey imports do not.
Cost of Ownership in UAE
At AED 196,290, the
ID.4 Pro is priced competitively against the Tesla Model Y Long Range (~AED
215,000) and Hyundai IONIQ 5 (~AED 189,900), while offering the additional
confidence of a fully warranted, officially supported vehicle. For 20,000 km
annually with a home wall box, electricity costs run approximately AED
1,300–1,600 (DEWA rates) versus AED 9,000–12,000 for a comparable 2-litre
petrol SUV — annual savings of AED 7,000–10,000 are realistic.
Insurance through
official UAE channels ranges from AED 9,000 to AED 13,000 annually. Annual EV
servicing through Al Nabooda or Ali & Sons is approximately AED 1,500–2,500
— well below petrol SUV equivalents. Three-year residual values for officially
distributed ID.4 units are estimated at 55–62% of purchase price, supported by
VW's established brand recognition and the active dealer network. NMC battery
chemistry in UAE heat carries moderate long-term degradation risk — thermal
management is active and capable, though not as heat-resilient as LFP chemistry
found in BYD equivalents.
