2025 Tesla Model X Review UAE
Battery Spec
Both variants share
a 100 kWh NCA (Nickel-Cobalt-Aluminium) battery pack, optimised for energy
density over thermal resilience. The Dual Motor AWD claims up to 649 km WLTP,
while the Plaid variant returns 608 km due to its higher power draw. NCA
chemistry provides excellent energy-to-weight ratio but is more sensitive to
sustained high-temperature cycling than LFP alternatives.
Real-World Range
In UAE summer
conditions with full cabin cooling, expect 460–520 km from the Dual Motor and
430–490 km from the Plaid. Motorway cruising at 120–140 km/h reduces both
figures by a further 10–15%. Air suspension in its lowest setting improves
aerodynamic efficiency marginally. Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi return journeys are
comfortably achievable without a charging stop.
Home Charging
The Model X charges
at up to 11 kW via Type 2 AC, completing a full charge in approximately nine to
ten hours overnight. At DEWA's residential rate of AED 0.23/kWh, a full charge
costs approximately AED 23. In Abu Dhabi at the expatriate rate of AED 0.27/kWh,
the cost is approximately AED 27. Tesla's Wall Connector is available for
purchase separately through the Tesla online store.
Public Fast Charging
DC fast charging
peaks at 250 kW on Tesla Supercharger V3/V4 stations, reaching 10–80% in
approximately 30 minutes. The UAE has Supercharger sites at Dubai Mall
Za'abeel, Mall of the Emirates, Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi Al Maryah, Yas Mall, Ras
Al Khaimah, and Al Ain. The Model X also charges on third-party CCS2 networks
including DEWA Green Charger, E2GO, UAEV, and GreenParking.

Tesla Model X — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
The Model X interior
centres on a minimalist design with premium synthetic leather across all
seating surfaces. The second row offers three individual seats, while the
optional third row accommodates two additional passengers — best suited to
children or shorter adults. Heated seats are standard across all three rows,
with ventilated front seats also included.
Driver Comfort
A 17-inch landscape
touchscreen dominates the dashboard, flanked by a 12.3-inch digital instrument
cluster behind the steering wheel. A 9.4-inch rear entertainment display serves
second-row passengers. The panoramic windshield extends from the bonnet line to
above the driver's head, flooding the cabin with natural light. A standard
round steering wheel is fitted, with the yoke available as an option.
AC Performance
The HEPA air
filtration system with Bioweapon Defence Mode provides medical-grade air
quality — filtering bacteria and pollutants at 300 times the rate of standard
automotive filters. This is a genuine differentiator in UAE conditions during
sandstorms. Remote pre-cooling via the Tesla app is standard, and the system
cools the cabin from extreme heat within four to five minutes.
Luggage
Boot capacity is 425
litres behind the third row, expanding to approximately 2,614 litres with all
rear seats folded. A 183-litre frunk provides additional secure storage for
valuables or charging cables. The falcon wing rear doors open vertically using ultrasonic
sensors that automatically adjust the arc to avoid ceilings in multi-storey car
parks — a practical advantage in Dubai's underground parking structures.
Infotainment
Tesla's proprietary
operating system powers the 17-inch touchscreen with a responsive interface for
navigation, media, and vehicle controls. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not
supported — a persistent omission that remains a dealbreaker for some buyers.
Arabic keyboard input and voice commands are available ("Hey Tesla"
in Arabic), though full Arabic UI localisation has not been confirmed.
Over-the-air updates continuously add features and improvements.
Safety
Eight airbags are
standard, including curtain protection. The ADAS suite includes Autopilot with
adaptive cruise control, auto-steer, automatic lane change, and auto-park as
standard. Full Self-Driving capability is available as a paid upgrade. Euro
NCAP awarded the Model X five stars in 2019 with 98% adult occupant protection.
Sentry Mode provides 360-degree camera surveillance when parked.
How Does it Drive?
Instant electric
torque makes the Model X feel considerably lighter than its 2,373–2,539 kg kerb
weight suggests. The dual-motor AWD system distributes power seamlessly between
axles. Forward visibility through the panoramic windshield is exceptional by SUV
standards. The falcon wing doors attract attention at every valet — whether
that is desirable is a matter of personal taste.
Performance
The Dual Motor
variant dispatches 0–100 km/h in 3.9 seconds — supercar territory for a
seven-seat family SUV. The Plaid variant reduces this to 2.6 seconds, making it
one of the fastest production SUVs on sale anywhere. Top speeds are 250 km/h
(Dual Motor) and 262 km/h (Plaid). Motorway overtakes at 120 km/h require only
a momentary squeeze of the accelerator.
Braking
Regenerative braking
is strong enough for one-pedal driving in most urban scenarios. The system
feeds energy back to the battery with meaningful efficiency gains in stop-start
Dubai traffic. Hydraulic brakes provide confident stopping power from high speeds,
though brake dust accumulation is minimal compared to ICE equivalents — an
aesthetic benefit in the UAE's sandy environment.
Autopilot
Standard Autopilot
handles adaptive cruise and lane centring reliably on the E11, Sheikh Zayed
Road, and clearly-marked motorways. Navigate on Autopilot (available with FSD
upgrade) suggests lane changes and takes motorway exits. No Level 3 autonomous
capability is currently active in the UAE. The system requires constant driver
supervision via steering wheel input.
Handling
Adaptive air
suspension is standard on all Model X variants, providing adjustable ride
height from 145 mm (low) to approximately 208 mm (very high). The floor-mounted
battery pack lowers the centre of gravity, reducing body roll through motorway
curves. Steering is light and direct — well-calibrated for the UAE's wide,
smooth urban roads rather than aggressive back-road driving.
Ride
Air suspension
absorbs Dubai's predominantly smooth highway surfaces with composed refinement.
Speed bumps and multi-storey car park ramps are handled without jarring. The
adaptive damping automatically firms in Sport mode and softens in Comfort. Wind
noise at 120 km/h is moderate — the falcon wing door seals have improved
substantially since early production but remain slightly less isolated than the
best German rivals.
Off-Road
The Model X is a
road-biased luxury SUV with no dedicated off-road modes, terrain management
system, or published wading depth. Maximum ground clearance of approximately
208 mm (raised setting) permits graded gravel tracks but is insufficient for
serious desert or wadi driving. Buyers with off-road requirements should
consider the Rivian R1S or traditional body-on-frame alternatives.
Warranty and After-Sales
Tesla offers a
four-year or 80,000 km basic vehicle warranty and an eight-year or 240,000 km
battery and drive unit warranty with a 70% minimum capacity retention guarantee
— the latter is among the most generous in the UAE market. Service centres
operate in Dubai and Abu Dhabi with mobile service technicians available for
minor repairs. Tesla's direct-to-consumer model means no third-party dealer
margin, but also no walk-in service culture — appointments are booked through
the Tesla app.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Grey import Model X
units from North America use Tesla's proprietary NACS connector, requiring an
adapter for CCS2 charging at all UAE networks including Tesla Superchargers
configured for CCS2. US-spec vehicles may lack GCC-specific thermal management
calibration, and warranty coverage is voided outside the original market.
Insurance premiums for grey imports are typically 15–25% higher. Government
incentives — free Salik tag, green parking bays, reduced registration — apply
to officially registered vehicles only.
Cost of Ownership
At AED 404,990, the
Dual Motor undercuts the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 450+ by approximately AED
200,000 while offering comparable range and superior charging speed. For a
buyer covering 20,000 km per year with home charging at AED 0.23/kWh, annual
electricity cost is approximately AED 900–1,100. Supercharger costs at AED
1.20–1.80/kWh add approximately AED 600–900 for occasional DC sessions.
Insurance estimates
range from AED 16,000 to AED 24,000 annually depending on driver profile. Tesla
servicing is minimal — no engine oil, no transmission fluid, no brake pad
replacement under normal regenerative braking use. Annual service costs are
estimated at AED 1,500–2,500. Government incentives include a free Salik tag
(toll charges of AED 4–6 per gate still apply), green parking bay access with a
four-hour session limit, and reduced RTA registration fees.
Depreciation risk is
moderate to high. Tesla's frequent price adjustments can erode residual values
unpredictably, and the Model X's falcon wing door mechanisms represent a
potential long-term maintenance liability. NCA battery chemistry is more
sensitive to UAE heat cycling than LFP alternatives, though the 70% capacity
guarantee provides meaningful financial protection. Three-year resale is
estimated at 50–60% of purchase price.
