2025 Polestar 2 Review UAE
Battery Spec
Two battery sizes
are offered: a 69 kWh pack for the Standard Range and an 82 kWh pack across
Long Range and Performance variants. Both use CATL NMC (nickel manganese
cobalt) chemistry, optimised for energy density rather than outright thermal
resilience. WLTP-rated range spans from 554 km (Standard Range) to 654 km (Long
Range Single Motor), with the dual-motor AWD variants consuming more energy at
596 km and 568 km respectively.
Real-World Range
UAE summer
conditions with full AC load reduce effective range by 15–20%. The Long Range
Single Motor realistically delivers 520–555 km in cooler months and 490–525 km
at peak summer. Highway driving at 120–140 km/h cuts range further due to
aerodynamic losses. The Standard Range variant provides approximately 440–470
km in real-world UAE use — still comfortable for a Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi return
trip without charging.
Home Charging
All variants charge
at 11 kW via three-phase Type 2 AC, taking seven hours (69 kWh) or eight hours
(82 kWh) for a full charge on a standard villa wall box. At DEWA's residential
rate of AED 0.23/kWh, a full charge costs approximately AED 15.87 (69 kWh) or
AED 18.86 (82 kWh). In Abu Dhabi at the expatriate rate of AED 0.27/kWh, costs
are AED 18.63 and AED 22.14 respectively.
Public Fast Charging
The Long Range
variants support DC fast charging at up to 205 kW CCS2, reaching 10–80% in
approximately 28 minutes. The Standard Range variant peaks at 135 kW,
completing the same charge in roughly 34 minutes. Compatible UAE networks
include DEWA Green Charger, E2GO (including the E11 Saih Shuaib mega hub), UAEV
in the Northern Emirates, and GreenParking. Tesla Supercharger access is not
available for the Polestar 2 in the UAE at the time of writing.

Polestar 2 — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
Front seats offer
generous adjustment with power lumbar support. Rear legroom is adequate for two
adults; the centre seat is narrow due to the floor-mounted battery. Rear
headroom clears 178 cm occupants comfortably. Material quality is distinctly
Volvo — soft-touch surfaces, woven textile or optional Nappa leather from
Bridge of Weir. Boot access via the power tailgate reveals 407 litres,
expanding to 1,097 litres with the 60/40 rear bench folded.
Driver Comfort
The driving position
sits low and sports-car adjacent — a departure from the elevated SUV norm in
the UAE. Steering column adjusts for rake and reach. The 12.3-inch digital
instrument cluster is crisp and uncluttered. Forward visibility is excellent;
the sloping roofline restricts over-shoulder checks, making the 360-degree
camera essential for parking.
AC Performance
Dual-zone climate
control is standard across all variants. Cabin cool-down from peak UAE summer
temperatures takes approximately six to eight minutes — competitive with German
rivals. Remote pre-conditioning via the Polestar app allows cabin cooling before
entry. Ventilated front seats are available with the Plus pack; buyers in the
UAE should consider this essential. Rear seat ventilation is not offered.
Luggage
The 407-litre boot
accommodates two large suitcases or a full weekly grocery shop. A 41-litre
frunk under the bonnet stores charging cables or small valuables. Total cargo
with rear seats folded reaches 1,097 litres — competitive for the fastback
segment. No V2L capability is offered.
Infotainment
The 11.15-inch
centre touchscreen runs Google's Android Automotive OS natively — Google Maps,
Google Assistant, and the Play Store are built in. Apple CarPlay is available
wirelessly following a software update. Arabic language support is available
for the system interface and Google Maps navigation, though Google Assistant's
Arabic voice recognition may have limitations. Over-the-air updates are
standard, keeping the system current without dealer visits.
Safety
Nine airbags
including front-centre and curtain protection are standard. The ADAS suite
covers AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise with
stop-and-go, lane-keep assist with steering support, blind-spot monitoring,
rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree surround-view camera. The Polestar 2
achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating in 2021 with 92% adult occupant
protection. Battery safety benefits from Volvo's crash structure engineering
and NMC cell thermal management.
How Does it Drive?
The Polestar 2
drives like a low-slung GT rather than an elevated crossover. Forward
visibility is strong. The regenerative braking calibration is among the
smoothest in class, with a natural pedal transition that avoids the lurching
sensation common in some EVs.
Performance
The Performance Pack
dispatches 0–100 km/h in 4.2 seconds with 476 hp and 740 Nm — genuinely rapid
for a family sedan. Even the Standard Range variant at 6.4 seconds feels brisk
in UAE traffic. Highway overtaking at 120 km/h is effortless across all variants.
Wind noise at highway speeds is well managed thanks to frameless side windows
and refined aerodynamics.
Braking
One-pedal driving is
available and configurable through the touchscreen. Regenerative braking
strength is adjustable. The system brings the car to a near-complete stop in
one-pedal mode. Brembo brakes are fitted to the Performance Pack variant,
offering strong fade resistance under repeated hard braking.
Autopilot
Pilot Assist
combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centring on clearly marked
motorways. Performance on Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 is dependable. The
system requests regular steering input and does not offer hands-free operation.
No Level 3 autonomous capability is available.
Handling
The battery-flat
floor and low centre of gravity deliver confident cornering. The Performance
Pack adds Öhlins dual-flow valve dampers for sharper turn-in. Low-speed
manoeuvrability is adequate; the 5.65 m turning circle fits standard
multi-storey car parks and UAE mall basements without difficulty. The
360-degree camera assists in tight spaces.
Ride
Standard suspension
provides a compliant ride over UAE's well-maintained urban roads. The
Performance Pack's firmer Öhlins setup transmits more surface detail —
acceptable on smooth tarmac but noticeable over speed bumps. Rear passenger
comfort is good across all variants at cruising speeds.
Al-Futtaim — Warranty and Service
Al-Futtaim Electric
Mobility distributes Polestar in the UAE through the Polestar Space at City
Walk, Dubai. The vehicle warranty covers three years from delivery regardless
of ownership change. The high-voltage battery carries an eight-year or 160,000
km warranty with a 70% state-of-health guarantee — meaning a free replacement
if capacity drops below that threshold. Service is handled through the
Al-Futtaim network, which also supports Volvo. Parts availability benefits from
shared Volvo architecture and the Al-Futtaim group's regional logistics.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Grey import Polestar
2 units sourced from Europe or China may lack UAE-calibrated thermal management
software, correct navigation mapping, and regional charging profiles. Insurance
loading for grey imports runs 15–25% above official dealer vehicles, with some
insurers declining coverage entirely. Government incentives — free Salik tag,
green parking bays, reduced registration fees — apply exclusively to officially
registered agency vehicles. The Polestar 2's software-dependent OTA update
system may not function correctly on grey import units outside the supported
regional configuration.
Cost of Ownership
The Standard Range
at AED 129,900 positions the Polestar 2 competitively against the Tesla Model 3
and BMW i4 eDrive35. For a buyer covering 20,000 km per year with a home wall
box, annual electricity cost is approximately AED 780 at DEWA's AED 0.23/kWh rate
— versus AED 5,000–6,000 for a comparable petrol sedan. Annual fuel savings
exceed AED 4,200, partially offsetting the purchase premium over an equivalent
Volvo S60.
Insurance through
official UAE channels is estimated at AED 7,000–10,000 annually depending on
variant and driver profile. EV servicing is minimal — no oil changes, brake
wear is reduced by regenerative braking — with annual service costs estimated
at AED 1,500–2,500. Government incentives include a free Salik tag (toll
charges of AED 4–6 per gate still apply), green parking bay access with a
four-hour session limit, and reduced RTA registration fees.
Depreciation risk is
moderate to low. Polestar benefits from Volvo's brand equity and Al-Futtaim's
established presence in the UAE market. However, the brand's limited regional
awareness means resale demand is narrower than for Tesla or BMW. The AWD variants
at AED 264,900–273,900 represent a significant price jump over the RWD models
and carry higher depreciation exposure. NMC battery chemistry requires careful
thermal management in UAE heat; the eight-year battery warranty with 70% SoH
guarantee provides meaningful protection. Three-year resale is estimated at
50–60% of purchase price for RWD variants.
