2025 MG MG4 Review UAE
Battery Spec
Three NMC
lithium-ion battery options are offered: 51 kWh (Standard), 64 kWh (Pro,
Luxury, High Performance), and 77 kWh (Extended Range). All packs use a
400-volt architecture with the cells mounted beneath the cabin floor. The 77
kWh Extended Range variant delivers a WLTP-rated 520 km — the longest range in
the line-up. The High Performance AWD variant draws from the same 64 kWh pack
but returns a reduced 385 km due to dual-motor energy demand.
Real-World Range
UAE summer
conditions reduce WLTP figures by 15–25%. The Standard variant realistically
delivers 265–298 km; the Pro achieves 338–383 km; and the Extended Range
settles around 390–442 km. Highway driving at 120–140 km/h with full AC load
pushes consumption toward the lower end of these estimates. City-cycle driving
in cooler months holds closer to the upper bound.
Home Charging
All variants charge
at 6.6 kW via Type 2 AC. The 51 kWh Standard takes approximately 7.5 hours for
a full charge; the 64 kWh variants require around nine hours; and the 77 kWh
Extended Range needs approximately 11.5 hours. At DEWA's residential rate of AED
0.23/kWh, a full charge costs AED 11.73 (51 kWh), AED 14.72 (64 kWh), or AED
17.71 (77 kWh). At the Abu Dhabi expatriate rate of AED 0.27/kWh, costs are AED
13.77, AED 17.28, and AED 20.79 respectively.
Public Fast Charging
DC fast charging
speeds vary by battery size: the 51 kWh Standard peaks at 87 kW (10–80% in
approximately 35 minutes), whilst the 64 kWh variants reach 142 kW
(approximately 25 minutes), and the 77 kWh Extended Range tops at 144 kW
(approximately 30 minutes). Compatible UAE networks include DEWA Green Charger,
E2GO, UAEV, and GreenParking. The MG4 is not compatible with Tesla
Superchargers.

MG MG4 — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
The MG4's hatchback
body provides a low step-in height for easy access. Rear legroom is adequate
for two adults; a flat floor across the rear bench improves middle-seat
comfort. Trim materials are functional rather than premium — hard plastics
dominate door panels and lower dashboard areas. Storage includes front door
pockets and a centre console tray.
Driver Comfort
The driving position
sits low and sporty, with six-way manual seat adjustment on base trims and
electric adjustment on Luxury and above. Steering adjusts for both rake and
reach. The 10.25-inch central touchscreen is positioned at a comfortable angle,
and the 7-inch digital instrument cluster provides clear speed and range
readouts.
AC Performance
Single-zone climate
control is standard across all variants. Cabin cool-down from peak summer
temperatures takes six to eight minutes — acceptable for the segment. Remote
pre-cooling via the MG iSMART app is available on higher trims. No ventilated
or heated seats are offered on any variant — a notable omission for UAE
summers.
Luggage
Boot space measures
363 litres with the rear seats upright, expanding to 1,177 litres with the
60:40 split-fold rear bench lowered. No frunk is available. The boot floor is
flat, and the loading lip is modest — manageable for weekly shopping runs and
airport luggage.
Infotainment
The 10.25-inch
touchscreen runs MG's iSMART system with Arabic language interface support —
important for UAE buyers. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across
all variants. The system displays real-time energy flow, battery state, and
remaining range. Over-the-air updates are supported. A six-speaker audio system
is standard, with no upgrade option.
Safety
Six airbags
including curtain protection are standard across the range. The MG Pilot ADAS
suite includes AEB with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise
control, and blind-spot monitoring. Rear cross-traffic alert and a 360-degree
surround camera are fitted from Luxury trim upward. Euro NCAP awarded five
stars — 87% adult occupant, 85% child occupant, 85% vulnerable road users, and
80% safety assist.
How Does it Drive?
The rear-wheel-drive
layout and low battery-mounted centre of gravity give the MG4 a planted, agile
character uncommon in this price range. Visibility from the driver's seat is
strong in all directions. The light steering suits urban driving and car park
manoeuvres.
Performance
The Standard
variant's 7.7-second 0–100 km/h sprint is adequate for city driving and
motorway merges. The Extended Range completes the same in 6.5 seconds. The High
Performance XPOWER variant delivers 3.8 seconds — genuinely rapid for a
hatchback priced at AED 138,000. Wind noise at 120 km/h is moderate; road roar
from the rear is noticeable on coarse surfaces.
Braking
Regenerative braking
offers three adjustable levels via the centre console. One-pedal driving mode
is available and brings the car close to a full stop in urban conditions.
Hydraulic brake pedal feel is consistent and progressive across all variants.
Autopilot
MG Pilot adaptive
cruise control with stop-and-go functions reliably on Sheikh Zayed Road and the
E11. Lane centring performs adequately on well-marked motorways but disengages
on poorly-lined roads. No Level 3 autonomous capability is offered.
Handling
The MSP platform's
rear-drive bias and low centre of gravity deliver confident cornering that
exceeds segment expectations. The turning circle is tight enough for
multi-storey car parks and mall parking. At 1,504 mm in height, the MG4 clears
standard 2.1-metre parking structure barriers comfortably.
Ride
Suspension tuning
favours firmness over plush comfort — acceptable on the UAE's smooth urban
roads but noticeable over expansion joints and speed bumps. Rear passengers on
longer journeys may find the ride busier than in SUV-class alternatives. The
XPOWER variant rides marginally firmer due to its performance-oriented
calibration.
Warranty and After-Sales
Inter Emirates
Motors covers the MG4 with a six-year or 200,000 km vehicle warranty and an
eight-year or 200,000 km battery warranty — among the most generous in the UAE
EV market. MG-certified technicians are available at service centres in Dubai
and Abu Dhabi. EV service intervals are less frequent than comparable petrol
hatchbacks, reducing long-term maintenance costs. Parts availability for MG
models in the UAE has improved through 2024–2025 as the brand's regional
footprint expands.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Grey import MG4
units may lack UAE-specific software calibration, Arabic navigation, and
regional thermal management tuning. Insurance loading is 15–25% above standard;
some insurers decline grey import EVs entirely. Government incentives — free
Salik tag, green parking bays, reduced registration fees — apply to official
agency vehicles only. The MG4's high-voltage NMC battery requires
manufacturer-certified tooling inaccessible to grey import owners through the
Inter Emirates Motors network.
Cost of Ownership
At AED 103,000, the
base MG4 Standard is one of the most affordable new EVs in the UAE. For a buyer
covering 20,000 km per year with a home wall box, annual electricity cost is
estimated at AED 780–850 (at DEWA's AED 0.23/kWh rate), versus AED 4,500–5,500
for a comparable petrol hatchback. Annual energy savings of approximately AED
3,700–4,700 make the running cost case compelling from day one.
Insurance estimates
through official UAE channels range from AED 5,000 to AED 8,000 annually,
reflecting the MG4's lower price bracket. Annual EV servicing is approximately
AED 1,200–1,800 — significantly below petrol equivalents. Government incentives
include a free Salik tag (toll charges of AED 4–6 per gate still apply), green
parking bay access with a four-hour session limit, and reduced RTA registration
fees.
Depreciation risk is
moderate-to-high. MG's brand recognition in the UAE is still maturing, and
resale values for Chinese-manufactured EVs remain less predictable than for
established Japanese or Korean competitors. The eight-year battery warranty
provides reassurance on the powertrain's long-term health. Three-year resale is
estimated at 45–55% of purchase price — below segment leaders but offset by the
low entry price.

MG MG4 — Standard Equipment
2025 MG MG4 — Final Verdict
The MG MG4 is the
UAE's best-value electric hatchback in 2025. Five variants covering AED 103,000
to AED 138,000, up to 520 km of WLTP range, and a five-star safety rating make
a compelling case for first-time EV buyers, urban commuters, and small families.
Interior quality trails premium rivals, and the absence of ventilated seats is
felt in UAE summers. For buyers prioritising running costs and range per dirham
spent, the MG4 delivers convincingly. Book a test drive at Inter Emirates
Motors to assess whether the compact hatchback format suits daily requirements.
