2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan Review UAE
Battery Spec
All EQS Sedan
variants share a 108 kWh usable (125 kWh gross) NMC 811 battery supplied by
CATL. The facelift added approximately 10 kWh of usable capacity over the
pre-facelift model. The EQS 450+ delivers up to 785 km WLTP, while the heavier
580 4MATIC achieves 670–715 km and the AMG EQS 53 returns 526–586 km depending
on wheel and tyre combination.
Real-World Range
Under UAE summer
conditions with sustained AC load at 45°C, expect a 20–25% reduction from WLTP
figures. The EQS 450+ should deliver 590–660 km in mixed driving — comfortably
covering a return Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi trip. Highway cruising at 120–140 km/h reduces
efficiency further. The standard heat pump mitigates some AC-related range
loss, a meaningful advantage in the Gulf climate.
Home Charging
The standard 11 kW
onboard charger completes a full charge in approximately 12.75 hours via Type 2
AC — an overnight proposition for villa owners. The AMG variant includes a 22
kW charger as standard, halving charge time to roughly 6.5 hours. At DEWA's residential
rate of AED 0.23/kWh, a full charge costs approximately AED 24.84. In Abu Dhabi
at the ADDC expatriate rate of AED 0.27/kWh, the cost rises to AED 29.16.
Public Fast Charging
DC fast charging
peaks at 200 kW via CCS2, completing 10–80% in approximately 31 minutes.
Compatible UAE networks include DEWA Green Charger, E2GO (including the Saih
Shuaib mega hub on the E11), UAEV across the Northern Emirates, and
GreenParking. The EQS is not natively compatible with the Tesla Supercharger
network. Charging curve management is sophisticated, maintaining high power
delivery through to 60% state of charge.

Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
The EQS cabin is a
showcase of Mercedes-Benz craftsmanship. Nappa leather upholstery, 64-colour
ambient lighting, and Burmester surround sound are standard. Rear legroom is
generous courtesy of the 3,210 mm wheelbase — competitive with a long-wheelbase
S-Class. The facelift adds power-adjustable rear seats. The 620-litre boot
opens via a practical hatchback tailgate, unusual for the segment.
Driver Comfort
The MBUX Hyperscreen
spans 56 inches across the dashboard under a single curved glass panel, housing
three OLED displays. The driving position is low and sedan-like, with
multi-contour seats offering massage, heating, and ventilation. Steering
adjusts for rake and reach. Road and wind noise are exceptionally well
suppressed at a class-leading 0.20 Cd drag coefficient.
AC Performance
Quad-zone climate
control is standard, with individual temperature settings for all four seating
positions. The standard heat pump reduces energy draw for cabin cooling — a
meaningful efficiency advantage in 45°C conditions. Remote pre-conditioning via
Mercedes me Connect allows the cabin to reach target temperature before entry.
Heated and ventilated front seats are standard across all trims.
Luggage
Boot capacity is 620
litres with a flat load floor, expandable to 1,700 litres with the 40/20/40
split-fold rear seats lowered. There is no frunk — the front compartment houses
the electric motor and power electronics. The hatchback-style tailgate provides
a wider opening than a traditional saloon boot lid, easing loading of bulkier
items.
Infotainment
The MBUX Hyperscreen
comprises a 12.3-inch OLED instrument cluster, 17.7-inch OLED central
touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch OLED passenger display. Arabic language support is
available for both display and voice commands via "Hey Mercedes".
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Over-the-air updates keep
the system current. Navigation includes charging route planning with real-time
charger availability.
Safety
The EQS earned five
stars from Euro NCAP in 2021, scoring 96% for adult occupant protection.
Standard ADAS includes PRE-SAFE anticipatory protection, Active Distance Assist
DISTRONIC, Active Steering Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Brake
Assist, and a 360-degree camera system. The facelift introduces Active Lane
Change Assist at SAE Level 2. Ten airbags including curtain and knee protection
are fitted.
How Does it Drive?
The EQS is one of
the quietest cars available in the UAE market — electric drivetrain silence
combines with exceptional insulation to create a near-silent cabin at speed.
Visibility from the low-slung driving position is excellent forwards; rear
visibility is aided by the standard 360-degree camera. The transition between
regenerative and friction braking is seamless.
Performance
The EQS 450+
delivers composed acceleration at 6.2 seconds to 100 km/h — adequate for luxury
touring. The 580 4MATIC's 4.3-second sprint and 544 hp provide decisive highway
overtaking. The AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ is genuinely rapid at 3.4 seconds, producing
up to 751 hp with the AMG Dynamic Plus package. All variants are electronically
limited to 210 km/h, rising to 250 km/h for the AMG with the performance
package.
Braking
Three-stage
regenerative braking is adjustable via steering wheel paddles, with the
strongest setting enabling one-pedal driving in urban conditions. The system
recovers up to 290 kW under deceleration. Hydraulic brakes are ventilated discs
front and rear, with the AMG variant receiving upgraded calipers for
track-oriented braking performance.
Autopilot
Active Distance
Assist DISTRONIC operates at speeds up to 210 km/h with stop-and-go capability
— well-suited to Sheikh Zayed Road traffic. Active Steering Assist provides
lane centring on marked highways. Route-Based Speed Adaptation automatically
adjusts speed for curves, roundabouts, and junctions using map data. No Level 3
autonomous capability is currently active in the UAE.
Handling
AIRMATIC air
suspension with Adaptive Damping System is standard, providing a compliant ride
with controlled body movement through motorway curves. Rear-axle steering
tightens the turning circle to under 11 metres — a significant advantage when
parking a 5.2-metre saloon in mall car parks. The low centre of gravity from
the floor-mounted battery provides planted high-speed stability.
Ride
Ride quality is the
EQS Sedan's strongest dynamic attribute. AIRMATIC air suspension absorbs road
imperfections with a level of composure that matches or exceeds the S-Class.
The 2,545–2,700 kg kerb weight contributes to a planted, isolated feel over the
UAE's generally smooth urban road surfaces. Rear passengers benefit from
minimal intrusion over expansion joints and speed bumps.
Gargash — Warranty and Service
Gargash Enterprises
(Dubai, Sharjah, Northern Emirates) and Emirates Motor Company (Abu Dhabi, Al
Ain) provide the full Mercedes-Benz dealer experience. The vehicle warranty is
three years with unlimited mileage. The high-voltage battery carries a 10-year
or 250,000 km warranty — the most generous in the luxury EV segment. Service
centres with EQ-certified high-voltage technicians are established in Dubai,
Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. Parts availability benefits from Mercedes-Benz's
long-established UAE supply chain.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Grey import EQS
units frequently lack GCC-specification software calibration, Arabic MBUX
localisation, and the thermal management routines optimised for Gulf ambient
temperatures. Insurance loading is 15–25% above standard premiums; several UAE
insurers decline grey import coverage for high-value EVs entirely. Government
incentives — free Salik tag, green parking, reduced registration fees — apply
exclusively to official agency vehicles. The EQS's 400V high-voltage
architecture requires Mercedes-Benz-certified diagnostic equipment unavailable
outside the dealer network.
Cost of Ownership
The EQS 450+ at AED
605,000 positions against the petrol S-Class 500 4MATIC (from approximately AED
620,000). For a buyer covering 20,000 km per year with a home wall box, annual
electricity cost is estimated at AED 1,050–1,200, versus AED 9,000–13,000 in
premium petrol for an S-Class equivalent. Annual energy savings are
approximately AED 8,000–11,000.
Insurance estimates
through official UAE channels range from AED 25,000 to AED 40,000 annually
depending on variant and driver profile. Annual servicing is approximately AED
4,000–6,000. Government incentives include a free Salik tag (toll charges of
AED 4–6 per gate still apply), designated green parking bays with a four-hour
session limit, and reduced RTA registration fees.
Depreciation risk is
moderate to high. The rapid pace of EV technology evolution and the EQS's high
entry price create steeper first-three-year depreciation than the petrol
S-Class. However, Mercedes-Benz's established residual value support programmes
and the 10-year battery warranty partially offset this. NMC 811 chemistry is
more susceptible to heat-related capacity fade than LFP alternatives; the
battery warranty provides meaningful long-term reassurance.
