2025 Li Auto L9 Review UAE
Official Range and Battery Spec
The L9 uses a 52.3
kWh CATL Ternary NMC battery pack paired with a 1.5T four-cylinder petrol range
extender engine and a 65-litre fuel tank. The dual electric motors produce a
combined 330 kW and 620 Nm of torque. This EREV architecture means the vehicle
operates as a pure EV when battery charge is sufficient, with the petrol engine
activating solely to recharge the battery — it does not drive the wheels
directly.
Electric-only range: ~200 km
estimated real-world (CLTC rated 220 km)
Total combined range (electric +
full petrol tank): ~900–1,000 km estimated real-world

Real-World Range in UAE Conditions
The L9's EREV
architecture largely eliminates range anxiety for UAE buyers — a full petrol
tank and charged battery provides sufficient range for Abu Dhabi–Dubai–Sharjah
multi-stop days without planning. Electric-only range in UAE summer with
sustained AC load drops from the 220 km CLTC claim to an estimated 160–190 km;
however, the range extender activates seamlessly to continue the journey.
Petrol consumption in range-extender mode is approximately 6–8 litres per 100
km at motorway speeds — low for a vehicle of this size and weight.
Home Charging Times and Setup
The L9 supports AC
charging via Type 2, reaching 0–100% in approximately 6 hours on a standard 7
kW villa wall box. Daily home charging to maintain electric-only operation is
the most cost-effective approach — UAE villa residents with wall boxes can cover
most daily commuting purely on electricity. At DEWA's residential rate of AED
0.23/kWh, a full 52.3 kWh charge costs approximately AED 12.00; in Abu Dhabi at
AED 0.27/kWh, approximately AED 14.10.
Compatibility with DEWA and Public Fast Chargers
Export-specification
L9 units with CCS2 are compatible with DEWA Green Charger, E2GO, UAEV, and
GreenParking networks. As with all Li Auto UAE imports, the primary risk is
GB/T Chinese-spec charging ports — verify CCS2 export specification in writing
before purchase. Peak DC charging capability is rated at approximately 100 kW;
on typical 50–100 kW UAE public chargers, a 20–80% charge takes approximately
35–45 minutes. The L9 can also be refuelled at any UAE petrol station, making
it far more flexible than a pure BEV for buyers without reliable home charging
access.

Li Auto L9 — Battery, Charging & fueling
Cabin Comfort
The L9's cabin is
its defining strength — a 3,105 mm wheelbase translates to genuinely
limousine-grade space across all three rows. Second-row seats are individually
reclining, electrically adjustable captain's chairs with heated, ventilated,
and 18-point massage functions. Third-row seats are adult-usable, also with
heating. Air suspension with Magic Carpet technology actively adapts damping to
road conditions, setting a comfort benchmark for this price range.
Driver Comfort
The driver benefits
from an electrically adjustable seat with massage, memory function, and cushion
firmness adjustment linked to the air suspension. Forward visibility from the
commanding SUV position is excellent; the large dimensions require regular use
of the 360-degree camera in urban Dubai parking situations. Controls are
primarily managed through the dual 15.7-inch OLED touchscreens and a 21.4-inch
rear entertainment screen — physical buttons are minimal.
AC Performance and Cabin Cooling
The L9's multi-zone
climate system cools the cabin rapidly, aided by remote pre-conditioning via
the Li Auto app. All six seating positions receive dedicated AC vents; front
and second-row seats are ventilated. The panoramic glass roof covers a large
portion of the ceiling — professional UV ceramic tinting is mandatory for UAE
open parking conditions. Heat soak is manageable given the vehicle's robust
climate capacity, but tinting should be factored in at purchase.
Luggage Capacity
With all six seats
occupied, boot space is 332 litres — modest for a vehicle of this size. Folding
the third row expands capacity to 1,191 litres. There is no frunk. The L9 is
designed primarily as a people-mover rather than a cargo-hauler; UAE families using
all three rows should plan accordingly for airport trips requiring substantial
luggage.
Infotainment and Tech
Dual 15.7-inch OLED touchscreens
(centre console and co-pilot), 21.4-inch 3K rear entertainment screen, HD
HUD — all voice, touch, and gesture controlled

Advanced Driver
Assistance includes:
LiDAR-based AD Pro / AD Max
system (Ultra); AEB, adaptive cruise with stop-and-go, lane centring
Blind-spot monitoring, rear
cross-traffic alert, 360-degree camera, automatic parking
7 terrain drive modes including

How Does it Drive?
The L9 prioritises
comfort and refinement — it drives smaller than its 5.2-metre length suggests.
The Magic Carpet air suspension absorbs UAE road surfaces, expansion joints,
and speed bumps with composure at both urban and motorway speeds. At 120 km/h on
the E11, the cabin is hushed and stable; the 2,570 kg kerb weight is
well-managed by the air suspension's adaptive damping.
Performance
The 330 kW
dual-motor AWD delivers a 5.3-second 0–100 km/h sprint — impressively quick for
a 2.5-tonne, three-row family SUV. Overtaking on Sheikh Zayed Road is immediate
and effortless, with electric torque available instantly regardless of speed.
The petrol range extender is near-inaudible during normal driving — it
activates as a generator, not a primary drive source, maintaining the EV
driving character.
Braking
Regenerative braking
is available in adjustable levels and supports one-pedal driving. Conventional
braking is progressive and confidence-inspiring for a vehicle of this weight
class. Energy recovery contributes meaningfully to electric range in Dubai stop-start
urban traffic.
Autopilot Systems
The Ultra trim's AD
Max system — NVIDIA Thor-U chip at 700 TOPS with LiDAR — provides class-leading
ADAS hardware. Adaptive cruise and lane centring perform reliably on
well-marked UAE motorways. On older Northern Emirates roads, more frequent
driver inputs are required. Active driver supervision remains mandatory; no
Level 3 autonomy is offered on UAE-spec grey imports.
Handling
Crab Walk mode
(low-speed diagonal movement via four-wheel steering) aids parking in tight
Dubai mall basement structures — a genuinely practical feature for a car of
this footprint. Seven terrain drive modes add genuine off-road capability for
desert and mountain road excursions. Steering is progressive and well-weighted
for the vehicle's size.
Ride
The Magic Carpet air
suspension is the L9's headline dynamic achievement. It adapts in real time to
road conditions, delivering a float-like quality on smooth UAE motorways while
maintaining body control. Rear-row passengers benefit most — the long wheelbase
and adaptive damping provide an exceptional comfort experience across all UAE
road types.
Legend Motors — Warranty and Service Network
Legend Motors is the
authorised Li Auto dealer in the UAE, providing official manufacturer warranty
coverage, HV and EREV-certified service technicians, and genuine parts support.
The L9 carries an 8-year or 160,000 km battery warranty and a full vehicle
warranty through the Legend Motors channel. Buyers purchasing grey import L9
units outside of Legend Motors receive no manufacturer warranty coverage
whatsoever — all repair and parts risk is borne independently. Official agency
purchase through Legend Motors also qualifies for UAE government EV incentives
including free Salik tag registration, green parking access, and reduced RTA
registration fees.
Grey Import vs. Official Dealer
Grey import L9 units
frequently arrive with Chinese GB/T charging ports, Chinese-only UI, and no UAE
OTA update pathway. Insurance premiums run 20–35% above segment average for
non-agency imports; some UAE insurers decline EREV grey imports entirely. The
EREV powertrain requires both HV electrical and petrol engine servicing
capability — an independent workshop without Li Auto certification is a
significant long-term risk. Purchasing through Legend Motors eliminates all of
these concerns and provides the full manufacturer warranty and official service
network.
Cost of Ownership in UAE
At AED 285,000, the
L9 Ultra significantly undercuts the BMW X7 (~AED 430,000), Cadillac Escalade
(~AED 380,000), and Lexus LX600 (~AED 420,000) while matching or exceeding
their cabin technology and space. For a buyer covering 25,000 km annually —
primarily on electric with petrol supplementing longer journeys — combined
electricity and petrol costs are estimated at AED 4,000–6,000 per year versus
AED 14,000–18,000 for a comparable petrol luxury SUV. Annual running cost
savings of AED 8,000–12,000 are achievable.
Insurance through
official channels for agency-purchased L9 units ranges from AED 12,000 to AED
18,000 annually. Annual servicing for the EREV powertrain through Legend Motors
— covering both HV battery maintenance and petrol engine service — is estimated
at AED 3,000–5,000 per year. Three-year residual values for officially
distributed L9 units via Legend Motors are estimated at 50–58% of purchase
price, supported by manufacturer warranty coverage and an established UAE
dealer presence. Parts availability through the official channel eliminates the
lead-time risk associated with grey import sourcing from China.
