2025 Range Rover Electric Review UAE
Battery Spec
The Range Rover
Electric uses a 117 kWh NMC battery with 344 prismatic cells in a double-stack
configuration, designed and manufactured in-house by JLR at their Electric
Propulsion Manufacturing Centre. The 800-volt architecture supports ultra-fast
charging. Dual permanently excited synchronous motors with silicon carbide
inverters produce approximately 550 hp and 851 Nm through intelligent all-wheel
drive.
Real-World Range
WLTP-estimated range
is approximately 500 km for the Standard HSE and 485 km for the heavier Pro
Autobiography. Applying the standard UAE deduction of 15–25% for summer heat
and motorway cruising, expect real-world figures of approximately 375–425 km
(HSE) and 364–412 km (Autobiography). Abu Dhabi to Dubai round-trips are
achievable on a single charge, though range-conscious motorway driving is
recommended in peak summer.
Home Charging
The Range Rover
Electric supports 22 kW AC charging as standard via dual charging ports on each
rear quarter, taking approximately five to six hours for a full charge. On an
11 kW wallbox, a full charge takes approximately 11 hours. At DEWA's
residential rate of AED 0.23/kWh, a full charge costs approximately AED 26.90.
In Abu Dhabi at the expatriate rate of AED 0.27/kWh, the cost is approximately
AED 31.60.
Public Fast Charging
DC fast charging at
350 kW CCS2 charges from 10% to 80% in approximately 20–25 minutes. The
800-volt architecture can split the battery into two 400-volt banks to charge
efficiently on 400-volt infrastructure. Compatible UAE networks: DEWA Green
Charger, E2GO (ADNOC/TAQA), Tesla Supercharger, UAEV, and GreenParking.

Range Rover Electric — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
The Range Rover
Electric seats four or five depending on configuration. The Autobiography trim
wraps the cabin in semi-aniline leather with heated, ventilated, and massage
front and rear seats. A leather-free option is available for environmentally
conscious buyers. The centre of mass sits 60 mm lower than the combustion Range
Rover, enhancing stability without compromising the commanding driving
position.
Driver Comfort
A 13.1-inch curved
floating glass touchscreen runs JLR's Pivi Pro system, paired with a 13.7-inch
Interactive Driver Display. Two 11.4-inch rear entertainment screens and an
8-inch rear armrest controller are standard on the Autobiography. Active road
noise cancellation provides a minimum 4 dB reduction, contributing to cabin
refinement that JLR claims surpasses the combustion model.
AC Performance
Four-zone climate
control distributes cooling effectively across the cabin. Pre-conditioning via
the Land Rover Remote app allows cabin cooling before departure. Ventilated
seats front and rear are standard from HSE upward. The panoramic glass roof
features UV-filtering tinting to manage solar load during UAE summer months.
Luggage
Boot space is 818
litres with all seats in use, expanding to approximately 1,841 litres with the
rear seats folded. No frunk is available — the front section houses the dual
motor and control units. The powered split tailgate and Tailgate Event Suite
with rear-mounted Meridian speakers are standard on the Autobiography.
Infotainment
The 13.1-inch Pivi
Pro touchscreen runs on dual Qualcomm Snapdragon processors with BlackBerry QNX
OS. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Arabic language
support is available through the Pivi Pro interface. Amazon Alexa integration
and over-the-air updates are included. The HSE features a Meridian surround
sound system; the Autobiography upgrades to a 35-speaker Meridian Signature
Sound System with Dolby Atmos and 1,700-watt amplification.
Safety
The L460 platform
achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating. The ADAS suite includes AEB with
pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go,
lane-keep assist, blind-spot assist with steer assist, rear cross-traffic
alert, and a 360-degree surround camera. A head-up display is available. Wade
Sensing uses ultrasonic sensors in the door mirrors to monitor water depth in
real time during off-road wading.
How Does it Drive?
The dual-motor
system delivers instantaneous torque with the near-silent refinement expected
of a Range Rover. The floor-mounted battery lowers the centre of gravity by 60
mm compared to the combustion model. Intelligent torque management detects
wheel slip in 50 milliseconds and responds in 1 millisecond — 100 times faster
than any mechanical system.
Performance
The Pro
Autobiography reaches 100 km/h in approximately 4.5 seconds, whilst the
Standard HSE manages approximately 4.8 seconds — both rapid for a luxury SUV
weighing 2,800 kg. Overtaking at motorway speeds is effortless and
whisper-quiet. Silicon carbide inverters ensure efficient power delivery at
sustained high speeds.
Braking
Regenerative braking
is available with adjustable intensity. The blended brake system transitions
smoothly between regenerative and hydraulic braking. Given the 2,800 kg kerb
weight, brake inspection at scheduled service intervals is important.
Autopilot
Adaptive cruise
control with stop-and-go and lane centring provide Level 2 driver assistance on
UAE motorways. The system functions reliably on well-marked roads including
Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 corridor. No Level 3 autonomous capability is
currently offered.
Handling
Twin-chamber
adaptive air suspension is standard, providing adjustable ride height and
damping. The lowered centre of gravity materially reduces body roll through
directional changes compared to the combustion model. Steering is progressive
and well-weighted, delivering precise feedback for a vehicle of this size.
Ride
The air suspension
delivers the most refined ride in the electric luxury SUV segment, filtering
speed bumps and rough surfaces with characteristic Range Rover composure.
Active road noise cancellation ensures the cabin remains isolated from tyre and
road noise at all speeds. Rear passenger comfort is exemplary.
Off-Road
Terrain Response is
fully integrated with the electric powertrain, offering modes for sand, mud,
rock, and grass/gravel. Wading depth is rated at 900 mm with real-time Wade
Sensing. Ground clearance is 219 mm in standard mode with additional height
available through the air suspension. The Range Rover Electric has been
validated at temperatures from -40°C to +50°C and across JLR's Eastnor Castle
off-road facility.
Warranty and After-Sales
Al Tayer Motors and
Premier Motors provide a 5-year vehicle warranty and an 8-year/160,000 km
battery and drivetrain warranty. JLR-certified high-voltage technicians operate
at service centres in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi. Over-the-air software
updates reduce the need for physical service visits for infotainment and
vehicle system improvements.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Grey-imported units
from the UK or other markets may lack UAE-specific software calibration,
regional navigation data, and summer thermal management routines. Insurance
loading on grey-import luxury EVs is 15–25% above standard; some insurers
decline coverage entirely. Government incentives — free Salik TAG, green
parking bays (4hr limit), reduced registration fees — apply to official agency
vehicles only. The Range Rover Electric's 800-volt architecture and proprietary
battery require JLR-certified tooling inaccessible to grey import owners
through Al Tayer's network.
Cost of Ownership
At AED 750,000 for
the Standard HSE, the Range Rover Electric sits in direct competition with the
Mercedes EQS SUV and BMW iX M60. For a villa-based buyer covering 20,000 km per
year with home charging at DEWA's rate of AED 0.23/kWh, annual electricity cost
is estimated at AED 1,900–2,400 — a substantial saving over the petrol V8 Range
Rover's fuel bill of AED 15,000–25,000 annually. Public DC fast charging at AED
0.90–1.10/kWh is more expensive but used less frequently by owners with home
wallboxes.
Insurance premiums
for a vehicle in this bracket are estimated at AED 25,000–40,000 annually
depending on driver profile and emirate. EV-specific maintenance is minimal —
no engine oil, no spark plugs, no transmission fluid — but air suspension
component inspection, brake servicing, and tyre replacement on the 23-inch
wheels represent meaningful recurring costs. Government incentives including
the free Salik TAG (toll charges of AED 4–6 per gate still apply), green
parking bay access with a four-hour session limit, and reduced RTA registration
fees partially offset running costs.
Depreciation is the
primary financial risk. First-generation electric Range Rovers carry unproven
residual values in the UAE market, and luxury EVs globally have demonstrated
steeper depreciation than their combustion equivalents. Buyers should factor potential
35–45% value loss over three years. However, JLR's established dealer network,
the Range Rover brand's historical prestige, and growing UAE EV infrastructure
may moderate this. The proprietary JLR battery with in-house manufacturing
provides some reassurance on long-term component availability.
