2025 Kia EV9 Review UAE
Battery Spec
Two battery packs
are offered: a 76 kWh unit for the entry-level RWD and AWD Base variants, and a
99.8 kWh pack across Long Range and GT-Line trims. Both use SK On NMC pouch
cells housed in a structural battery pack beneath the flat floor. The 800-volt
architecture supports ultra-fast DC charging and efficient energy delivery.
WLTP range spans from 443 km (76 kWh RWD) to 563 km (99 kWh RWD Long Range).
Real-World Range
UAE summer
conditions with full three-zone AC load reduce effective range by 18–25%. The
99 kWh RWD variant realistically delivers 420–480 km in mild months and 380–430
km at peak summer. Highway driving at 120–140 km/h reduces range further given
the EV9's substantial frontal area. The 76 kWh variants provide approximately
330–370 km in real-world UAE use — sufficient for a Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi single
trip but tight for a return without charging.
Home Charging
All variants charge
at 11 kW via three-phase Type 2 AC, taking seven to ten hours depending on
battery size. At DEWA's residential rate of AED 0.23/kWh, a full charge costs
approximately AED 17.48 (76 kWh) or AED 22.95 (99.8 kWh). In Abu Dhabi at the
expatriate rate of AED 0.27/kWh, costs are AED 20.52 and AED 26.95
respectively. A villa wall box or dedicated parking space is effectively
mandatory for daily use.
Public Fast Charging
The 800-volt
architecture supports DC fast charging at up to 209 kW CCS2, reaching 10–80% in
approximately 22 minutes — among the fastest in the UAE EV market. Compatible
UAE networks include DEWA Green Charger, E2GO (including the E11 Saih Shuaib
mega hub with 60 chargers), UAEV in the Northern Emirates, and GreenParking.
Tesla Supercharger access is not available for the EV9 in the UAE at the time
of writing. The 800V system also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) at 3.6 kW for
camping and emergency power.

Kia EV9 — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
The EV9's flat floor
and 3,100 mm wheelbase create a genuinely spacious six- or seven-seat cabin.
Second-row captain's chairs swivel 180 degrees to face the third row — a
feature unique in the UAE EV market. Third-row legroom accommodates adults on
short journeys, not merely children. Material quality is a step above typical
Kia — soft-touch surfaces throughout, available Nappa leather, and a
lounge-like ambience on GT-Line trims with relaxation seats.
Driver Comfort
The commanding SUV
driving position sits above most UAE traffic. The panoramic dual 12.3-inch
screen spans the full dashboard width, flanked by a 5-inch HVAC touch panel. A
12-inch head-up display projects speed and navigation data on higher trims.
Steering column adjusts for rake and reach. Forward visibility is excellent;
the flat bonnet line assists spatial awareness.
AC Performance
Three-zone climate
control is standard, covering all three rows independently — critical for UAE
family use. Cabin cool-down from peak summer temperatures takes approximately
five to seven minutes, assisted by the large evaporator unit. Remote pre-conditioning
via the Kia Connect app allows cabin cooling before entry. Ventilated front
seats are standard; heated and ventilated second-row captain's chairs are
available on higher trims. A dual sunroof is fitted; UV film tinting is
recommended.
Luggage
Boot space behind
the third row is 333 litres — tight for a large SUV but adequate for a weekly
grocery shop. Folding all rear seats opens up to 2,393 litres — competitive
with traditional three-row SUVs. No frunk is offered. V2L power export provides
3.6 kW externally for camping equipment or emergency household use.
Infotainment
The panoramic
display integrates two 12.3-inch screens — a digital instrument cluster and a
centre touchscreen — running Kia's ccNC platform. Apple CarPlay and Android
Auto are available via wired connection; wireless connectivity is not offered.
Arabic language support is available for the navigation and system interface.
Over-the-air software updates are supported. A Meridian premium audio system is
fitted on higher trims.
Safety
Nine airbags
including curtain protection across all three rows are standard. The ADAS suite
covers AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise with
stop-and-go and highway driving assist, lane-keep and lane-centring, blind-spot
monitoring with steering assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and a surround-view
camera. An intelligent child presence detection system monitors the rear cabin
after the vehicle is locked. The EV9 achieved five-star Euro NCAP in 2023 with
84% adult and 88% child occupant protection.
How Does it Drive?
The EV9 drives
smaller than its 5.01-metre length suggests. The flat battery floor lowers the
centre of gravity, reducing body lean through corners. Forward visibility from
the elevated position is commanding. The regenerative braking system offers
four levels of adjustment via paddle shifters, with an i-Pedal mode for
near-complete one-pedal driving.
Performance
The AWD GT-Line
dispatches 0–100 km/h in 5.3 seconds with 385 hp and 700 Nm — rapid for a
vehicle weighing over 2,600 kg. Even the entry-level 76 kWh RWD at 8.2 seconds
feels adequate in UAE traffic. Highway overtaking at 120 km/h is decisive
across all AWD variants. Wind noise at highway speeds is well managed for a
vehicle of this frontal area.
Braking
Regenerative braking
is adjustable across four levels via steering-mounted paddles. i-Pedal mode
provides strong one-pedal driving that brings the vehicle to a complete stop.
Hydraulic brake feel is progressive and confident, with good fade resistance under
repeated heavy braking despite the considerable kerb weight.
Autopilot
Highway Driving
Assist 2 (HDA2) combines adaptive cruise control with lane centring and
automated lane changes on multi-lane motorways. Performance on Sheikh Zayed
Road and the E11 is dependable. The system functions well on clearly marked UAE
highways but requests driver input more frequently on older Northern Emirates
roads. No Level 3 autonomous capability is offered.
Handling
The battery-flat
floor and 3,100 mm wheelbase deliver stable high-speed cornering for a
three-row SUV. AWD variants with electronic limited-slip differential maintain
composure through motorway curves. The 11.8 m turning circle is manageable for
most UAE multi-storey car parks, though tight underground spaces require care.
The surround-view camera and rear cross-traffic alert are essential urban aids.
Ride
Standard suspension
provides a composed ride over UAE's predominantly smooth urban roads. The long
wheelbase absorbs expansion joints and speed bumps effectively. Third-row
passenger comfort is notably better than most three-row SUVs at highway
cruising speeds, benefiting from the absence of exhaust and driveline vibration
inherent to internal combustion alternatives.
Al Majid Motors — Warranty and Service
Al Majid Motors, a
division of Juma Al Majid Holding Group, has distributed Kia vehicles in the
UAE since 1988 through a network of ten sales outlets and established service
centres across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the Northern Emirates. The vehicle
warranty covers five years or 150,000 km. The high-voltage battery carries a
seven-year or 150,000 km warranty. A three-year or 60,000 km complimentary
service package is included. Parts availability benefits from Kia's established
regional logistics and the shared E-GMP platform with Hyundai.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Grey import EV9
units sourced from South Korea or the US may lack UAE-calibrated thermal
management software, correct navigation mapping, and regional charging
profiles. The 800-volt electrical system requires Kia-certified diagnostic
tooling inaccessible to independent workshops. Insurance loading for grey
imports runs 15–25% above official dealer vehicles. Government incentives —
free Salik tag, green parking bays, reduced registration fees — apply
exclusively to officially registered agency vehicles. Given the EV9's
complexity and Al Majid's established network, the risk-reward calculation
strongly favours the official channel.
Cost of Ownership
At AED 225,000, the
entry-level EV9 undercuts the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado VX significantly while
offering three-row seating and zero direct emissions. For a buyer covering
20,000 km per year with a home wall box, annual electricity cost is
approximately AED 1,020 at DEWA's AED 0.23/kWh rate (based on ~22 kWh/100 km
real-world consumption) — versus AED 8,000–12,000 for a comparable petrol SUV.
Annual fuel savings exceed AED 7,000.
Insurance through
official UAE channels is estimated at AED 10,000–16,000 annually depending on
variant. EV servicing is minimal with annual costs estimated at AED 1,500–2,500
— the three-year complimentary service package covers initial maintenance. Government
incentives include a free Salik tag (toll charges of AED 4–6 per gate still
apply), green parking bay access with a four-hour session limit, and reduced
RTA registration fees.
Depreciation risk is
moderate. Kia's brand perception in the UAE has strengthened considerably
through the EV6 and Telluride, and the EV9's World Car of the Year status
provides marketing resilience. However, full-size electric SUVs remain a niche
category in the UAE, and resale demand is narrower than for established petrol
SUVs. The 99 kWh AWD GT-Line at AED 385,000–400,000 carries higher depreciation
exposure given the steep entry price. NMC battery chemistry in the UAE heat
requires careful thermal management; the seven-year battery warranty provides
meaningful protection. Three-year resale is estimated at 55–65% for mid-range
variants.
