2025 Deepal S05 Review UAE
Battery Spec
The BEV variant runs
a 56.12 kWh LFP battery mounted in the EPA1 platform's skateboard floor. LFP
chemistry provides strong thermal stability in UAE ambient temperatures and
tolerates full daily charging without meaningful degradation. The REEV pairs a
smaller 27.28 kWh LFP pack with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated "Blue
Whale" petrol generator producing 98 hp — this engine never drives the
wheels directly but charges the battery under demand.
Real-World Range
The BEV's WLTP claim
of approximately 460 km translates to a real-world estimate of 345–390 km in
UAE conditions, accounting for sustained AC load and motorway speeds of 120–140
km/h. Summer heat and high-speed cruising reduce this further. The REEV delivers
roughly 120–130 km of electric-only range in practice, extending to over 800 km
combined with the petrol generator — a practical solution for buyers without
reliable home charging.
Home Charging
The S05 charges via
a 6.6 kW onboard AC charger through a Type 2 connector. The BEV takes
approximately eight hours for a full charge on a standard wall box. At DEWA's
residential rate of AED 0.23/kWh, a full BEV charge costs approximately AED
12.91. In Abu Dhabi at the expatriate ADDC rate of AED 0.27/kWh, the cost rises
to AED 15.15. The REEV charges in roughly four hours.
Public Fast Charging
The BEV supports up
to 150 kW DC fast charging via CCS2, reaching 30–80% in approximately 15
minutes — competitive within this price segment. Compatible UAE networks
include DEWA Green Charger, E2GO (ADNOC/TAQA), UAEV, and GreenParking. The
REEV's maximum DC rate of approximately 55 kW is adequate given its smaller
battery. Neither variant is compatible with Tesla Superchargers without a CCS
adapter.

Deepal S05 — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
Front seats are
synthetic leather with ventilation and heating — a notable inclusion at this
price point. The driver's seat offers six-way electric adjustment with lumbar
support and memory. The front passenger seat reclines to 124 degrees, marketed
as a "Queen's Co-Pilot" feature for long-distance comfort. Rear
legroom is adequate for two adults; the 60:40 split-folding bench includes
three headrests and ISOFIX points.
Driver Comfort
The 15.4-inch 2.5K
"Sunflower" central touchscreen runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155
chip and is responsive in direct sunlight. A 53-inch augmented reality head-up
display projects navigation and speed data onto the windscreen — unusual technology
in the sub-AED 100,000 bracket. The leather-wrapped steering wheel adjusts for
tilt and reach. 64-colour ambient lighting is standard.
AC Performance
Automatic climate
control cools the cabin from peak UAE temperatures within five to seven
minutes. A heat pump comes standard, improving efficiency in cooler months.
Rear AC vents are fitted. Remote pre-cooling via the Deepal app allows the
cabin to reach a comfortable temperature before entry. An air purifier is
included — a practical feature given the region's occasional sandstorm
conditions.
Luggage
The BEV offers 492
litres of boot space, expanding to 1,250 litres with rear seats folded. A
159-litre frunk provides additional lockable storage — useful for valuables or
charging cables. The REEV's boot is slightly smaller at 464 litres, and the
front engine compartment eliminates the frunk. V2L power export at up to 6.6 kW
is standard on both variants.
Infotainment
The infotainment
system supports full Arabic language navigation — essential for the UAE market.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The Deepal OS 3.0
interface handles EV range, battery state, and energy flow data simultaneously.
A 50W wireless charging pad with cooling prevents overheating. Over-the-air
updates keep the system current without dealer visits.
Safety
Euro NCAP awarded
the S05 five stars in 2025 testing — adult occupant protection scored 94%. Six
airbags including curtain protection are standard. The "FutureSense
2.0" ADAS suite uses five cameras, five millimetre-wave radars, and 12
ultrasonic sensors. Standard features include AEB with pedestrian and cyclist
detection, adaptive cruise with stop-and-go, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot
monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree surround camera with
transparent chassis view.
How Does it Drive?
The rear-mounted
electric motor provides instant torque, making urban filter merges and
roundabout exits effortless. The BEV's 235 hp feels adequately brisk for the
S05's kerb weight. The REEV transitions smoothly between electric and
generator-assisted modes under moderate throttle, though the 1.5-litre engine
becomes audible under sustained highway acceleration.
Performance
The BEV reaches 100
km/h in 7.3 seconds — respectable for a compact SUV at this price. The REEV
manages 7.9 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h (BEV) and
175 km/h (REEV). Overtaking at motorway speeds is confident, though not rapid enough
to compete with performance-oriented rivals in the segment.
Braking
Regenerative braking
is adjustable. Ventilated front discs and solid rear discs provide consistent
stopping power. Brake pedal feel is linear across both electric and
regenerative modes. The 1,770 kg kerb weight keeps braking distances
competitive within the C-segment SUV class.
Autopilot
Adaptive cruise with
stop-and-go functions reliably on well-marked UAE motorways including Sheikh
Zayed Road and the E11. Lane centring performs well in structured traffic; less
defined Northern Emirates roads may require more driver input. Automatic parking
assist is included. No Level 3 autonomous capability is offered.
Handling
MacPherson strut
front and multi-link rear suspension provide balanced cornering behaviour. The
low centre of gravity from the skateboard battery placement keeps body roll
controlled through motorway interchanges. Electric power-assisted steering is
well-weighted at highway speeds. The 5.75-metre turning radius aids urban
manoeuvrability.
Ride
Over the UAE's
smooth urban roads, the S05 rides with composed comfort. The monotube dampers
absorb speed bumps and expansion joints without harshness. At motorway speeds,
wind noise is moderate — the 0.25 Cd drag coefficient is among the lowest in
this class. Road noise intrusion on coarse surfaces is noticeable but
acceptable for the price bracket.
Off-Road
The S05 is not
designed for off-road use. Ground clearance of 169 mm is sufficient for gravel
tracks and shallow ramps but inadequate for serious sand or wadi driving. No
dedicated terrain modes or 4WD system is available on UAE-spec variants. Buyers
requiring desert capability should look to higher-riding alternatives in the
Deepal or broader market range.
Warranty and After-Sales
Al Tayer Motors
provides a six-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty and an eight-year or 150,000
km battery warranty — competitive for this segment. Service is available
through the Al Tayer Motors network in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The BEV variant
benefits from simplified servicing with no engine oil, filters, or timing belt
changes. The REEV requires periodic engine maintenance alongside EV system
checks, increasing service frequency marginally.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Grey import S05
units typically lack UAE-specific software calibration, Arabic language
navigation, and summer thermal management tuning. Insurance loading is 15–25%
above standard for grey imports; some insurers decline unregistered
Chinese-brand EVs entirely. Government incentives — free Salik tag, green
parking, reduced registration fees — apply exclusively to official agency
vehicles. The high-voltage battery system requires Changan-certified tooling
unavailable to grey import owners through Al Tayer's network.
Cost of Ownership
At AED 89,900, the
BEV variant is among the most affordable new electric SUVs in the UAE. For a
buyer covering 15,000 km per year with home charging, annual electricity cost
is estimated at approximately AED 800–1,000, versus AED 4,500–6,000 for a
comparable petrol SUV. The REEV's combined fuel and electricity cost sits
between the two, estimated at AED 2,000–3,000 annually depending on the
electric-to-petrol driving ratio.
Insurance estimates
through official UAE channels range from AED 4,500 to AED 7,000 annually.
Servicing costs are approximately AED 1,200–1,800 per year for the BEV and AED
1,800–2,500 for the REEV. Government incentives for the BEV include a free
Salik tag (toll charges of AED 4–6 per gate still apply), green parking bay
access with a four-hour session limit, and reduced RTA registration fees. The
REEV may not qualify for all EV-specific incentives due to its petrol range
extender.
Depreciation risk is
moderate to high. Deepal is a new brand in the UAE without an established
pre-owned market, and Chinese-brand resale values remain below Japanese and
Korean benchmarks. However, Al Tayer Motors' backing and the eight-year battery
warranty provide some reassurance. LFP chemistry resists thermal degradation in
hot climates, supporting long-term battery health. Three-year resale is
estimated at 45–55% of purchase price — a figure that may improve as the brand
establishes dealer and service credibility.
