2025 BYD Sealion 7 Review UAE
Battery Spec
All four Sealion 7
variants share an 82.5 kWh BYD Blade LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery.
Blade LFP's cell-to-pack design eliminates conventional module packaging,
improving energy density and thermal stability. LFP chemistry resists capacity
degradation in sustained high temperatures — a critical advantage in the UAE's
45–50°C summer peaks. The e-Platform 3.0 positions the battery flat beneath the
cabin floor, lowering the centre of gravity.
Real-World Range
The RWD variant
claims approximately 482 km WLTP; real-world UAE summer range is estimated at
365–410 km under sustained AC load and motorway speeds. Cooler months should
yield 410–460 km. The AWD claims 456 km WLTP, translating to approximately
345–390 km in summer. City driving with regenerative braking favours the upper
end of estimates; sustained 120–140 km/h highway runs sit at the lower end.
Home Charging
The Sealion 7
accepts 11 kW AC via Type 2, charging from empty to full in approximately 8.5
hours on a villa wall box. At DEWA's residential rate of AED 0.23/kWh, a full
charge costs roughly AED 18.98. In Abu Dhabi at the expatriate rate of AED
0.27/kWh, the cost is approximately AED 22.28. Overnight charging covers a full
working week for most commuters.
Public Fast Charging
DC fast charging at
up to 150 kW CCS2 reaches 10–80% in approximately 31 minutes. Compatible UAE
networks include DEWA Green Charger, E2GO (including ADNOC and TAQA stations),
UAEV (Northern Emirates), and GreenParking. Tesla Supercharger access requires
a CCS2-compatible adapter and is not guaranteed at all locations.

BYD Sealion 7 — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
The Sealion 7 seats
five on leather-appointed chairs with a flat rear floor. Rear legroom is
generous for the class, aided by the 2,930 mm wheelbase. Front seats are
electrically adjustable with memory on Performance trims. Material quality is
strong for the price point, with soft-touch dashboard panels and contrast
stitching throughout.
Driver Comfort
A 15.6-inch rotating
central touchscreen dominates the dashboard, flanked by a 10.25-inch digital
instrument cluster. The screen pivots between portrait and landscape
orientation. The driving position offers good forward visibility, aided by slim
A-pillars. A head-up display projects speed and navigation onto the windscreen.
AC Performance
Dual-zone automatic
climate control with a heat pump manages cabin temperature efficiently. Remote
pre-cooling via the BYD app prepares the cabin before entry. Ventilated front
seats (Performance trims) combat UAE heat during short journeys. The panoramic
glass roof includes a powered sunshade but aftermarket UV tinting remains
advisable for summer.
Luggage
The boot measures
520 litres with all seats upright, expanding to 1,789 litres with the rear
bench folded. A 58-litre front trunk (frunk) accommodates charging cables or a
small carry-on. V2L (vehicle-to-load) power export provides up to 3.3 kW for
external devices. The power tailgate is standard across all trims.
Infotainment
BYD's DiLink system
powers the 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen with full Arabic language support —
an important differentiator in the UAE market. Wireless Apple CarPlay and
Android Auto are standard. Over-the-air software updates keep the system
current. A 12-speaker audio system provides adequate cabin entertainment; the
system displays real-time energy flow, charging status, and range projections.
Safety
Euro NCAP awarded
the Sealion 7 a five-star safety rating in 2024. The ADAS suite includes
autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control
with stop-and-go, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear
cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree surround camera. Seven airbags are
standard. The high-strength steel body shell meets the latest global crash
standards.
How Does it Drive?
The Sealion 7 rides
with composed, predictable manners. The floor-mounted battery lowers the centre
of gravity noticeably compared to ICE SUVs. Steering is well-weighted and
direct for the class. Road noise is well suppressed at urban speeds; some tyre
roar becomes evident above 100 km/h depending on surface quality.
Performance
The AWD variant's
4.5-second 0–100 km/h sprint places it among the quickest mid-size SUVs in the
UAE market. The RWD's 6.7-second time is comfortable for daily driving and
confident overtaking. Mid-range acceleration is strong in both configurations,
aided by instant electric torque delivery.
Braking
Regenerative braking
is adjustable across multiple levels via paddle shifters. One-pedal driving
mode is available, bringing the vehicle to a near-complete stop in urban
conditions. Brake pedal feel blends regenerative and friction braking smoothly.
Fade resistance is adequate for UAE conditions.
Autopilot
Adaptive cruise
control with stop-and-go operates reliably on the E11 and Sheikh Zayed Road.
Lane centring performs well on clearly-marked multi-lane highways. Automatic
lane change is not offered. Intelligent parking assist supports perpendicular
and parallel scenarios with camera guidance.
Handling
The low battery
placement and 1,925 mm track width provide confident cornering composure. Body
roll is well controlled through motorway curves and roundabout entries.
Low-speed manoeuvrability is acceptable; the 360-degree camera and parking
sensors assist in tight multi-storey car parks.
Ride
Standard suspension
delivers a supple, well-damped ride over the UAE's generally smooth urban
roads. Minor imperfections are absorbed without harshness. At motorway speeds,
the Sealion 7 tracks straight with minimal float. Rear passenger comfort is a
genuine strength for long-distance family trips.
Warranty and After-Sales
Al Futtaim
Automotive covers the Sealion 7 with a six-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty
and an eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty. BYD-certified high-voltage
technicians are established at Dubai and Abu Dhabi service centres. BYD's Blade
LFP chemistry supports strong warranty confidence — LFP batteries typically
retain over 80% capacity beyond 3,000 charge cycles. Service intervals follow
standard BEV schedules with no engine-related maintenance.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Grey-imported
Sealion 7 units from China may ship with GB/T charging connectors incompatible
with UAE CCS2 infrastructure. Warranty coverage, software updates, and battery
guarantees are forfeited. Insurance premiums typically carry a 15–25 per cent
loading for grey-market vehicles. UAE government incentives — free Salik tag,
green parking, reduced registration — apply to official agency vehicles only.
Cost of Ownership
At AED 172,900 for
the RWD Base, the Sealion 7 undercuts the BMW iX3 and Mercedes EQB by AED
50,000–100,000. A full home charge costs approximately AED 18.98 at DEWA's AED
0.23/kWh rate, yielding a running cost of roughly AED 0.04/km. Over 20,000 km
annually, energy costs total approximately AED 800 — versus AED 6,000–7,000 for
a comparable petrol SUV, delivering annual savings of roughly AED 5,500.
Insurance estimates
range from AED 5,000 to AED 7,000 annually depending on variant. BEV service
costs are substantially lower than petrol equivalents — no oil changes, fewer
brake replacements, and simplified drivetrain maintenance. Annual service is estimated
at AED 1,000–1,500.
Depreciation risk is
moderate. BYD's brand recognition has strengthened through 2024–2025, and Al
Futtaim's established dealer network provides resale confidence. Blade LFP
chemistry resists thermal capacity fade, supporting long-term residual values.
Three-year resale is estimated at 55–65% of purchase price. UAE government
incentives include a free Salik tag (toll charges of AED 4–6 per gate still
apply), designated green parking bays with a four-hour limit, and reduced RTA
registration fees.
