2025 BYD Seal Review UAE
Battery Spec
All BYD Seal
variants use the BYD Blade LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cell-to-pack battery.
Gen 1 models are offered in 61.4 kWh (Standard) and 82.5 kWh (Long Range / High
Performance) capacities. The Facelift trims carry an updated 80.64 kWh pack.
Blade LFP's thermal stability is a meaningful advantage in UAE ambient
temperatures exceeding 50°C, and the chemistry supports deeper cycling without
accelerated degradation.
Real-World Range
The Long Range RWD
achieves 570 km on the WLTP cycle — the best in the lineup. In UAE summer
conditions with full AC load and motorway cruising at 120–140 km/h, expect a
15–25% reduction: approximately 430–485 km for the Long Range and 345–390 km
for the Standard. The AWD variants sacrifice 30–50 km due to the additional
motor's parasitic drag and weight.
Home Charging
Gen 1 variants
charge at 7 kW via Type 2 AC, taking approximately nine hours for a full 82.5
kWh charge. The Facelift models upgrade to an 11 kW three-phase onboard
charger, reducing full charge time to around 7.5 hours. At DEWA's residential
rate of AED 0.23/kWh, a full 82.5 kWh charge costs approximately AED 19. In Abu
Dhabi at the expatriate ADDC rate of AED 0.27/kWh, the same charge costs
approximately AED 22.30.
Public Fast Charging
DC fast charging
peaks at 150 kW via CCS2, reaching 10–80% in approximately 26 minutes on the
82.5 kWh pack. Compatible UAE networks include DEWA Green Charger, E2GO
(ADNOC/TAQA), Tesla Supercharger (via CCS2 adapter where available), UAEV, and
GreenParking. The 61.4 kWh Standard variant charges at up to 110 kW DC, with a
slightly shorter 10–80% time of approximately 24 minutes.

BYD Seal — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
The Seal's interior
blends a clean, ocean-themed design language with premium materials. Front
seats are leather-appointed with electric adjustment, heating, and ventilation
on higher trims. Rear legroom is generous for a sedan of this size thanks to
the flat battery floor and 2,920 mm wheelbase. The panoramic glass roof is
fixed and non-opening, letting in significant light but adding solar heat load
in summer.
Driver Comfort
The low driving
position suits a sports sedan — forward visibility is strong, though the
sloping roofline limits rear three-quarter sightlines. The 15.6-inch rotating
touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster are sharp and legible in
direct sunlight. A head-up display is available on upper trims, projecting
speed and navigation onto the windscreen.
AC Performance
Dual-zone climate
control cools the cabin efficiently, and a heat pump is standard on all
variants — reducing energy consumption for climate control in both winter and
summer. Remote pre-cooling via the BYD app is standard. Ventilated front seats
are a welcome addition for UAE summers, though rear passengers rely solely on
the ceiling vents.
Luggage
The boot offers
approximately 400 litres with the rear seats in place — competitive with the
Tesla Model 3 but smaller than the BMW i4. A small 50-litre frunk under the
bonnet accommodates a charging cable or overnight bag. Rear seats fold in a
60/40 split, extending the load floor for longer items. V2L (Vehicle-to-Load)
functionality provides 3.3 kW of external power output for devices or small
appliances.
Infotainment
The centrepiece is a
15.6-inch rotating touchscreen running BYD's DiLink system, which pivots
between portrait and landscape orientation at the touch of a button. Wireless
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across all trims. The system
supports Arabic language navigation — a critical requirement for UAE buyers. An
eight-speaker audio system and dual wireless phone charging pads are included
on all variants.
Safety
Euro NCAP awarded
the BYD Seal five stars in 2023 testing, with 90% adult occupant and 83% safety
assist scores. All variants include seven airbags, AEB with pedestrian
detection, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert,
and a 360-degree surround camera. The Facelift variants upgrade the ADAS
hardware with additional sensors and improved lane-centring calibration.
Adaptive cruise with stop-and-go is standard.
How Does it Drive?
The Seal's low
centre of gravity — courtesy of the floor-mounted Blade battery — gives it a
planted, confident feel through sweeping motorway curves. The sedan body is
aerodynamically efficient at a claimed 0.219 Cd, which contributes to reduced
wind noise at highway speeds. The transition from city crawl to E11 overtaking
is seamless, with instant torque delivery across all variants.
Performance
The High Performance
AWD variant sprints from 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds — placing it firmly in
sports car territory. The Long Range RWD achieves 5.9 seconds, and even the
base Standard returns 7.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 180
km/h across all variants. The Facelift Performance Ultra variant delivers 690
Nm — a 20 Nm increase over the outgoing Gen 1 High Performance.
Braking
Regenerative braking
is adjustable with multiple levels, and one-pedal driving mode brings the Seal
to a near-complete stop. Brake feel is consistent and predictable, with no
noticeable transition between regenerative and hydraulic braking under normal driving
conditions.
Autopilot
Adaptive cruise with
stop-and-go operates reliably on the E11, Sheikh Zayed Road, and well-marked
UAE motorways. Lane centring is smooth on clearly painted roads but can
disengage on faded markings in older emirates. The Facelift's upgraded ADAS
suite improves low-speed lane-keeping and intersection awareness. No Level 3
autonomy is offered.
Handling
MacPherson strut
front and multi-link rear suspension provide a balanced setup. The Seal corners
flat and predictable, with minimal body roll for a sedan weighing over 1,900
kg. The AWD variants distribute torque between axles for added traction in wet
conditions. Steering is well-weighted at speed but feels slightly light at
parking-lot velocities.
Ride
Over the UAE's
predominantly smooth urban tarmac, the Seal rides comfortably and absorbs
expansion joints without jarring. The 18-inch wheels on the Standard variant
provide a slightly softer ride compared to the 19-inch alloys fitted to the
Performance trims. No air suspension is available — the conventional
steel-spring setup is well-tuned for the region's road surfaces.
Off-Road
The BYD Seal is a
low-slung sedan with 150 mm ground clearance — it is not designed for gravel
tracks, desert excursions, or unpaved surfaces. Speed bumps and steep car park
ramps require moderate caution. Buyers seeking off-road capability should
consider the BYD Seal U or Sealion 7 within the same brand lineup.
Warranty and After-Sales
Al Futtaim Electric
Mobility covers the BYD Seal with a six-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty and
an eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty. BYD-certified high-voltage
technicians are based at Dubai and Abu Dhabi service centres. Service intervals
are every 12 months or 20,000 km — straightforward for a BEV with no oil,
filter, or timing belt requirements.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Grey import BYD Seal
units may lack UAE-specific software calibration, Arabic navigation, and the
heat pump optimisation required for Gulf summer conditions. Insurance loading
is typically 15–25% above official channel rates; some insurers decline grey-import
BEVs entirely. Government incentives — free Salik tag, green parking bays
(four-hour session limit), and reduced registration fees — apply exclusively to
official agency vehicles. The Seal's high-voltage battery system requires
BYD-certified diagnostic tooling unavailable through independent workshops.
Cost of Ownership
At AED 149,900 for
the base Standard, the BYD Seal undercuts the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4 in the
UAE market. For a buyer covering 20,000 km annually with a home wall box,
annual electricity cost is estimated at approximately AED 1,200–1,500 at DEWA
rates — a fraction of the AED 7,000–9,000 a comparable petrol sedan would
consume in fuel.
Insurance estimates
through official UAE channels range from AED 7,500 to AED 11,000 annually
depending on variant and driver profile. Annual BEV servicing is approximately
AED 1,500–2,000. Government incentives include a free Salik tag (toll charges
of AED 4–6 per gate still apply), green parking bay access with a four-hour
session limit, and reduced RTA registration fees.
Depreciation risk is
moderate to low. BYD's UAE brand presence has strengthened materially through
2024–2025, and Al Futtaim's backing provides the dealer network depth absent in
grey-market alternatives. Blade LFP chemistry resists thermal capacity fade in
hot climates, supporting long-term residual values. Three-year resale is
estimated at 55–65% of purchase price — competitive with established sedan
benchmarks from Tesla and BMW.
