2025 BYD Qin Plus DM-i Review UAE

Battery Spec
Two battery options are available: a 7.68 kWh pack on the 55 km EV variants and an 18.3 kWh pack on the 120 km EV variants. Both use BYD's Blade LFP chemistry, manufactured by FinDreams. The cell-to-pack LFP design provides strong thermal stability in UAE summer conditions. The petrol engine operates in series-parallel mode — driving the wheels directly at higher speeds or acting as a generator to charge the battery at lower speeds.
Real-World Range
The 120 km EV variant delivers approximately 75–90 km of pure-electric range in UAE conditions, accounting for AC load and ambient heat. The 55 km EV variant manages 35–46 km — enough for a short urban commute but not a full day's driving. Combined range with petrol on the 48-litre tank reaches approximately 600–700 km in real-world mixed driving. Abu Dhabi–Dubai–Abu Dhabi round trips require no charging stops in hybrid mode.
Home Charging
The 55 km EV variant charges via a 3.3 kW AC onboard charger, reaching full from empty in approximately 2.5 hours. The 120 km EV variant uses a 6.6 kW onboard charger, completing a full charge in approximately 3–5.5 hours depending on the state of charge. At DEWA's residential rate of AED 0.23/kWh, a full 18.3 kWh charge costs approximately AED 4.21. In Abu Dhabi at the expatriate ADDC rate of AED 0.27/kWh, the same charge costs AED 4.94.
Public Fast Charging
The Qin Plus DM-i does not support DC fast charging on GCC-spec models. Charging is limited to AC Type 2 only. Public AC chargers are available on the DEWA Green Charger and E2GO networks, but charge speeds are limited to the onboard charger's maximum (3.3 kW or 6.6 kW). For buyers who rely exclusively on public charging, this is a significant limitation — the Qin Plus is best suited to owners with access to a home or workplace wall box. 2025 BYD Qin Plus DM-i — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
The Qin Plus seats five with a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control as standard. The 2,718 mm wheelbase provides adequate rear legroom for two adults. Material quality is consistent with the price point — soft-touch surfaces are limited to the upper dashboard and door armrests. Door pockets accommodate standard water bottles.
Driver Comfort
The 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster displays hybrid system status, battery level, and range data clearly. The central touchscreen — 10.1 inches on the base trim or 12.8 inches on higher trims — rotates between portrait and landscape orientations. The steering column adjusts for rake and reach. Visibility through the greenhouse is good, aided by relatively thin A-pillars for the segment.
AC Performance
Dual-zone automatic climate control cools the cabin effectively in UAE summer conditions. Remote pre-cooling via the BYD app is available on higher trims. The PHEV system allows AC to run on battery power with the engine off — a meaningful comfort advantage over conventional hybrids at traffic lights and in parking. No ventilated seats are offered at this price point.
Luggage
The 450-litre boot is competitive with the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic. Rear seats fold to extend cargo capacity to approximately 1,500 litres. No frunk is available. The flat boot floor and wide opening make loading straightforward for weekly shopping and airport runs.
Infotainment
The rotating touchscreen runs BYD's DiLink system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A six-speaker audio system is standard, upgraded to eight speakers on higher trims. Arabic language support is expected on UAE-spec units through Al Futtaim, consistent with other BYD models in the range. Over-the-air updates and 4G connectivity are supported. Wireless phone charging is available on higher trims.
Safety
Up to six airbags are fitted on higher trims, including front side and curtain protection. The ADAS suite on equipped variants includes AEB, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot detection, and a reverse camera with rear parking sensors. The Qin Plus achieved a C-NCAP five-star rating in China. Euro NCAP testing has not been conducted. Base trims carry fewer airbags and reduced ADAS — buyers should confirm the specification level at the dealer.
How Does it Drive?
In EV mode, the Qin Plus is quiet and smooth for city driving. The transition between electric and petrol-assist modes is well-managed under moderate throttle — the 1.5-litre engine is barely noticeable at steady motorway speeds. The electric motor provides instant torque from standstill, making urban driving responsive despite the modest power figures.
Performance
The 0–100 km/h sprint takes 7.3–7.9 seconds depending on variant — adequate for confident motorway merging and overtaking. Top speed is limited to 180 km/h. The Qin Plus is not a performance sedan; it is calibrated for efficiency. The 120 km Long Range variant at 197 hp and 325 Nm offers the strongest acceleration, while the Standard variants prioritise fuel economy.
Braking
Regenerative braking recovers energy to the battery during deceleration. Ventilated front discs and solid rear discs provide consistent stopping power. Brake feel is progressive and predictable. The electronic parking brake with auto-hold is standard — a welcome feature in Dubai's frequent stop-start traffic.
Autopilot
Higher trims feature BYD's DiPilot system with adaptive cruise control and stop-and-go capability. Lane-keep assist and lane departure warning function on well-marked UAE motorways. The system is competent for highway cruising but does not offer automated lane changes or navigation-based autonomy. Base trims lack adaptive cruise entirely — standard cruise control is fitted instead.
Handling
MacPherson front struts and a torsion beam rear axle are standard for this price segment. The setup prioritises comfort over cornering precision. Body roll is present but controlled at normal driving speeds. The 5.5 m turning radius is manageable for multi-storey car parks and tight urban manoeuvres. At 1,480–1,580 kg, the Qin Plus is lighter than most BEVs, and the lower battery weight keeps the centre of gravity reasonable.
Ride
Over the UAE's predominantly smooth urban roads, the Qin Plus rides comfortably. The torsion beam rear transmits more secondary road imperfections than a multi-link setup, particularly over expansion joints and speed bumps at higher speeds. For its price point, ride quality is competitive with Japanese C-segment alternatives. Ground clearance of 140 mm is adequate for standard UAE roads.
Trim Levels and Pricing
* 55 km EV variants at these prices are typically grey imports with GB/T charging plugs — not official Al Futtaim stock. Official UAE pricing starts from AED 74,900 for the 120 km EV variant.
Warranty and After-Sales
Al Futtaim Electric Mobility covers the Qin Plus DM-i with a six-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty and an eight-year or 150,000 km battery warranty. BYD-certified high-voltage technicians are available at Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, and Ras Al Khaimah service centres. PHEV service intervals include petrol engine maintenance alongside standard hybrid system checks — annual servicing is estimated at AED 1,200–2,000, lower than most comparable Japanese sedans.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Grey import Qin Plus units — particularly the 55 km EV variants priced from AED 40,000–52,000 — use GB/T charging plugs incompatible with the UAE's Type 2 public charging infrastructure. Chinese-spec software typically lacks Arabic navigation, UAE mapping, and GCC-calibrated climate settings. Insurance loading on grey imports is 15–25% above standard. Government EV incentives — free Salik tag, green parking, reduced registration fees — apply to official agency vehicles only. At the price difference between a grey import and official stock, the warranty and after-sales support alone justify the official channel.
Cost of Ownership
At AED 74,900, the Qin Plus DM-i is the most affordable electrified sedan in the official UAE market. For a buyer covering 20,000 km per year with a home wall box and daily electric commuting, annual electricity cost is estimated at AED 600–900, with petrol consumption limited to longer weekend trips. Total fuel and energy cost is estimated at AED 2,000–3,500 per year — versus AED 6,000–9,000 for a comparable petrol sedan. Insurance estimates through official UAE channels range from AED 3,500 to AED 5,500 annually. Annual PHEV servicing is approximately AED 1,200–2,000. Government incentives include a free Salik tag (toll charges of AED 4–6 per gate still apply), green parking bay access with a four-hour session limit, and reduced RTA registration fees. The Qin Plus qualifies for PHEV incentives in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Depreciation risk is moderate. BYD's brand recognition in the UAE has strengthened significantly through 2024–2026, and Al Futtaim's established dealer network provides residual value support absent in grey-market alternatives. Blade LFP chemistry resists thermal capacity fade in hot climates. Three-year resale is estimated at 50–60% of purchase price — competitive with Japanese C-segment benchmarks, and potentially stronger given the rising appetite for electrified vehicles in the GCC. 2025 BYD Qin Plus DM-i — Standard Equipment
