2025 BYD Han EV Review UAE
The Verdict: 2025 BYD Han EV
The 2025
BYD Han EV is an E-segment electric sedan priced from AED 199,900 through Al
Futtaim Automotive. The Premium RWD variant produces 308 hp from a single motor
with a WLTP range of 565 km, while the Platinum AWD delivers 510 hp and 700 Nm
with a 521 km claim. Both share an 85.4 kWh BYD Blade LFP battery. DC fast
charging at 120 kW CCS2 reaches 10–80% in approximately 36 minutes.
The Han
EV suits executive commuters, families seeking a spacious electric sedan, and
buyers prioritising long range with established dealer backing. Those needing a
compact urban runaround, frequent long-distance touring beyond 400 km without
planning, or access to a wider service network should consider alternatives.
Battery Spec
Both
variants share an 85.4 kWh (gross) BYD Blade LFP battery with approximately 83
kWh usable capacity. Blade LFP uses a cell-to-pack architecture that passed
BYD's nail penetration test without thermal runaway — a meaningful safety
margin in UAE ambient temperatures exceeding 50°C. The Premium RWD claims 565
km WLTP; the Platinum AWD returns 521 km due to the additional motor mass.
Real-World Range
In UAE
summer conditions with full AC load, the RWD variant delivers an estimated
425–480 km — a 15–25% reduction from WLTP. The AWD sits at approximately
390–445 km. Highway cruising at 120–140 km/h between Dubai and Abu Dhabi
reduces range further versus urban driving. Winter months recover close to the
WLTP figure. The Han EV comfortably covers a Dubai–Abu Dhabi return trip
without charging in all seasons.
Home Charging
The Han
EV charges at 7.4 kW via Type 2 AC, taking approximately 12 hours from empty to
full on a standard villa wall box. At DEWA's residential rate of AED 0.23/kWh,
a full charge costs approximately AED 19.10. In Abu Dhabi at the expatriate
rate of AED 0.27/kWh, the cost is approximately AED 22.40. Overnight charging
on a villa wall box is the most cost-effective approach.
Public Fast Charging
DC fast
charging peaks at 120 kW CCS2, reaching 10% to 80% in approximately 36 minutes.
Compatible UAE networks include DEWA Green Charger, E2GO (including the E11
Saih Shuaib mega hub), UAEV across the Northern Emirates, and GreenParking.
Tesla Superchargers are not natively compatible. The 120 kW peak rate is
competitive within this segment, though some rivals now offer 200 kW+
architectures.
2025 BYD Han EV — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
The Han
EV's 2,920 mm wheelbase translates to generous rear legroom and headroom for a
sedan. Rear passengers benefit from reclinable seats, a flat floor, and
dedicated AC vents. Nappa leather upholstery is standard across both trims.
Centre console storage includes a large bin, dual cupholders, and a wireless
charging pad.
Driver Comfort
The
12-way electric driver's seat provides adequate range of adjustment. Steering
adjusts for rake and reach. Forward visibility is good; the sloping roofline
slightly compromises over-the-shoulder visibility, making the 360-degree camera
a regular aid during parking. The digital cluster and head-up display present
speed and navigation data clearly in direct sunlight.
AC Performance
Dual-zone
automatic climate control cools the cabin from 55°C+ to a comfortable
temperature within five to six minutes. Remote pre-cooling via the BYD app is
standard — essential for midday parking in open lots. Ventilated front seats
are fitted on both trims. Rear passengers receive AC vents but no seat
ventilation. UV tinting of the panoramic glass roof is strongly recommended.
Luggage
Boot
space is approximately 410 litres with a relatively shallow load lip for a
sedan. Rear seats fold in a 60:40 split for longer items. No frunk is available
— the front compartment houses the electric motor and cooling hardware. The
410-litre capacity is adequate for weekly shopping or two large suitcases.
Infotainment
The
15.6-inch rotating touchscreen dominates the dashboard, switching between
portrait and landscape depending on the application. Full Arabic language
support including navigation is available — a critical requirement in the UAE
market. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. A Dynaudio
premium audio system with 12 speakers is included on both trims. Over-the-air
updates keep the system current.
Safety
The Han
EV scored five stars in Euro NCAP's 2022 assessment. Standard safety equipment
includes 11 airbags, AEB with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise with
stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert,
and a 360-degree surround camera. The Blade LFP battery's cell-to-pack design
eliminates thermal runaway propagation between cells.
How Does it Drive?
The Han
EV delivers a refined, quiet driving experience suited to UAE motorway
conditions. Road and wind noise are well-managed at 120 km/h. The low centre of
gravity from the floor-mounted battery keeps body roll contained. The RWD
variant offers a composed, comfortable character; the AWD adds a sharper, more
athletic edge.
Performance
The
Premium RWD reaches 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds — adequate for confident motorway
merging and overtaking. The Platinum AWD transforms the experience with a
3.9-second sprint that rivals European performance sedans at twice the price.
At highway speeds on Sheikh Zayed Road, both variants deliver effortless
overtaking with instant electric torque.
Braking
Regenerative
braking is adjustable through multiple levels. One-pedal driving is available
and brings the vehicle to a near-complete stop. Brake feel under hard pedal
application is progressive and confidence-inspiring. Energy recovery
contributes meaningfully to urban range.
Autopilot
Adaptive
cruise with stop-and-go performs reliably on the E11 corridor and Sheikh Zayed
Road. Lane centring is effective on well-marked multi-lane motorways. The
system requests driver input on older Northern Emirates roads with faded
markings. No Level 3 autonomous capability is offered.
Handling
The
sedan body and low battery placement result in a well-balanced platform through
high-speed curves. Low-speed manoeuvrability is competent for a car of this
length. The 360-degree camera and front/rear parking sensors assist in
multi-storey car parks and tight mall basement slots. The 1,495 mm height
clears standard 2.1 m barriers comfortably.
Ride
Suspension
tuning leans toward comfort over sport. The Han EV absorbs UAE's smooth
motorway surfaces with composure. Speed bumps and expansion joints are handled
without jarring. Rear passengers benefit from the long wheelbase, experiencing
minimal vertical movement on well-maintained roads.
Al Futtaim — Warranty and Service
Al
Futtaim Automotive provides the Han EV with a six-year or 150,000 km vehicle
warranty and an eight-year or 200,000 km battery warranty — among the strongest
in the UAE electric sedan segment. Service centres are established in Dubai and
Abu Dhabi with BYD-certified high-voltage technicians. EV service intervals are
longer and less costly than petrol equivalents, with no engine oil, timing
belt, or exhaust system maintenance required.
Grey Import vs Official
Grey
import Han EV models — often sourced from China with GB/T charging ports — are
incompatible with UAE's CCS2 public charging infrastructure without aftermarket
adapters. Arabic navigation, UAE-tuned climate software, and regional radio
frequencies may be absent. Insurance loading is 15–25% above standard, and some
insurers decline coverage entirely. Government incentives including a free
Salik tag, green parking, and reduced registration fees apply exclusively to
official agency vehicles.
Cost of Ownership
At AED
199,900, the Premium RWD undercuts the BMW i4 eDrive40 and Mercedes-Benz EQE
350+ while offering comparable or superior range. For a buyer covering 20,000
km per year with a home wall box, annual electricity cost is estimated at AED
1,200–1,500 (DEWA rate), versus AED 9,000–12,000 for a comparable 3-litre
petrol sedan. Annual savings of AED 7,000–10,000 are realistic.
Insurance
through official UAE channels ranges from AED 10,000 to AED 14,000 annually
depending on driver profile and emirate. Annual EV servicing is approximately
AED 1,500–2,500, compared with AED 4,000–6,000 for a petrol E-segment sedan.
Government incentives include a free Salik tag (toll charges of AED 4–6 per
gate still apply), green parking bay access with a four-hour session limit, and
reduced RTA registration fees.
Depreciation
risk is moderate-to-low. BYD's brand recognition in the UAE has strengthened
materially through 2024–2025, and Al Futtaim's established dealer network
supports residual values that grey imports cannot match. Blade LFP chemistry
resists thermal capacity fade in hot climates — a critical advantage for
long-term battery health. Three-year resale is estimated at 55–65% of purchase
price.
