2025 BYD Atto 3 Review UAE
Battery Spec
Two battery options
are available: a 49.92 kWh pack and a 60.48 kWh pack, both utilising BYD's
Blade LFP cell-to-pack architecture. Blade LFP provides strong thermal
stability in UAE ambient temperatures exceeding 50°C and eliminates the
rare-earth materials found in NMC alternatives. Both variants share the same
single front-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing 150 kW (201
hp) and 310 Nm.
Real-World Range
The 49 kWh variant's
345 km WLTP claim drops to approximately 275–295 km in UAE summer conditions
under full AC load. The 60 kWh variant's 420 km WLTP rating translates to
roughly 335–360 km in similar conditions. Motorway cruising at 120–140 km/h
reduces both figures by a further 15–20%. City-cycle driving in cooler months
holds closer to the upper estimates.
Home Charging
The Atto 3 accepts
up to 7 kW via its Type 2 AC inlet. A full charge on a standard home wall box
takes approximately seven to nine hours for the 49 kWh and eight to nine and a
half hours for the 60 kWh. At DEWA's residential rate of AED 0.23/kWh, a full 60
kWh charge costs approximately AED 13.91. In Abu Dhabi at the ADDC expatriate
rate of AED 0.27/kWh, the same charge costs approximately AED 16.33.
Public Fast Charging
DC fast charging
peaks at 80 kW via the CCS2 inlet, reaching 10–80% in approximately 29 minutes.
Compatible UAE networks include DEWA Green Charger, E2GO (ADNOC/TAQA, including
the E11 corridor hubs), Tesla Supercharger (via CCS2 adapter where available),
UAEV, and GreenParking. Charging above 80% slows significantly as the BMS
tapers to protect the LFP cells.

BYD Atto 3 — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
The Atto 3 cabin
uses a mix of soft-touch synthetic leather and hard plastics on lower trim
panels. Front seats are comfortable for UAE commutes, with adequate bolstering
for motorway cruising. Rear legroom is generous for the segment thanks to the
2,720 mm wheelbase, accommodating two adults comfortably. The panoramic glass
roof (on Extended trims) brightens the cabin but benefits from aftermarket UV
tinting.
Driver Comfort
The driving position
is slightly elevated but lower than a traditional SUV. The 12.8-inch rotating
touchscreen dominates the dashboard, with a compact 5-inch digital instrument
cluster providing speed and range data. Steering column adjusts for rake and reach.
Forward visibility is good; rear three-quarter visibility is partially
obstructed by the thick C-pillars.
AC Performance
Single-zone climate
control cools the cabin effectively from above 50°C to a comfortable
temperature within five to eight minutes. Remote pre-cooling via the BYD app is
available on Extended trims. No ventilated seats are offered — a notable
omission for the UAE market. The rear air vents help distribute cooling to rear
passengers.
Luggage
Boot space measures
440 litres with the rear seats in place — competitive with the Hyundai Kona
Electric and slightly above the MG ZS EV. Folding the 60/40 split rear seats
expands capacity to 1,338 litres. The boot floor is flat, and the load lip is
relatively low. No frunk is available; the front section houses the motor and
power electronics.
Infotainment
The 12.8-inch
rotating touchscreen runs BYD's DiLink system with full Arabic language support
— critical for the UAE market. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto
are standard. The system is responsive but occasionally laggy during navigation
route calculation. Over-the-air updates are supported. An eight-speaker sound
system is standard across all trims.
Safety
Seven airbags are
standard across all variants. The Atto 3 scored five stars from Euro NCAP in
2022, with strong scores in adult occupant and child protection. ADAS features
include autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise
control, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear cross-traffic alert. A 360-degree
surround-view camera is standard on Extended trims.
How Does it Drive?
The Atto 3 drives
like a conventional compact SUV with instant electric torque from standstill.
Urban driving is where the car excels — quiet, smooth, and responsive in
stop-start traffic. The steering is light and well-suited to parking-heavy city
driving. NVH levels are low at city speeds, though wind noise becomes
noticeable above 110 km/h.
Performance
The 0–100 km/h
sprint of 7.3 seconds is adequate rather than rapid. Motorway merging and
overtaking at 100 km/h are confident but not urgent. Top speed is limited to
160 km/h — sufficient for all UAE road limits. The single-motor FWD layout
provides predictable, safe handling but lacks the excitement of dual-motor AWD
alternatives.
Braking
Regenerative braking
is adjustable through two levels. One-pedal driving is not available — the car
does not creep to a complete stop on regen alone. Brake pedal feel is
consistent, with a natural transition between regenerative and mechanical
braking. Stopping distances are competitive for the segment.
Autopilot
Adaptive cruise with
stop-and-go functions reliably on the E11 and E311. Lane centring is available
but requires driver input every 15–20 seconds. The system is competent for
motorway commuting but does not approach hands-free capability. No Level 3 or higher
autonomous features are offered.
Handling
Body roll is
controlled through moderate-speed corners thanks to the low-mounted battery
pack. The suspension is tuned for comfort over sportiness — appropriate for the
UAE's predominantly smooth urban roads. The turning circle is tight enough for
multi-storey car park manoeuvring. Ground clearance of approximately 175 mm is
adequate for speed bumps but not for off-road use.
Ride
The MacPherson strut
front and multi-link rear suspension delivers a composed ride on smooth
asphalt. Expansion joints and pothole-damaged road sections produce a mild thud
but no harshness. The 60 kWh variant rides slightly more settled than the 49
kWh due to its additional 170 kg of battery mass. Overall ride quality is a
strong point for the segment.
Off-Road
The Atto 3 is a
front-wheel-drive urban SUV with no off-road pretensions. Ground clearance of
175 mm and the absence of AWD, terrain modes, or underbody protection make it
unsuitable for gravel tracks or desert driving. Buyers seeking any off-road
capability should consider the BYD Sealion 7 AWD or Shark 6 from the same Al
Futtaim showroom.
Warranty and After-Sales
Al Futtaim Electric
Mobility covers the Atto 3 with a six-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty and
an eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty — competitive in the sub-AED
120,000 BEV segment. BYD-certified high-voltage technicians are available at
Dubai and Abu Dhabi service centres. EV service intervals are typically every
20,000 km or twelve months, focusing on brake fluid, cabin air filter, and
battery health checks.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Grey import Atto 3
units — typically sourced from China or Thailand — may lack UAE-specific
software calibration, Arabic navigation, and summer thermal management routines
optimised for Gulf temperatures. Insurance loading is 15–25% above standard;
some insurers decline grey-import BEVs entirely. Government incentives — free
Salik tag, green parking bays, reduced registration fees — apply exclusively to
official agency vehicles.
Cost of Ownership
At AED 94,900 for
the entry-level 49 kWh Standard, the Atto 3 is one of the most affordable BEVs
in the UAE with full manufacturer backing. For a buyer covering 15,000 km per
year with a home wall box, annual electricity cost is estimated at AED 750–1,000,
versus AED 5,500–7,000 for a comparable petrol compact SUV. Combined fuel
savings are approximately AED 4,500–6,000 per year.
Insurance estimates
through official UAE channels range from AED 4,500 to AED 7,000 annually
depending on driver profile and coverage level. Annual BEV servicing is
approximately AED 800–1,200 — significantly below petrol equivalents.
Government incentives include a free Salik tag (toll charges of AED 4–6 per
gate still apply), green parking bay access with a four-hour session limit, and
reduced RTA registration fees.
Depreciation risk is
moderate-to-high in the sub-AED 100,000 BEV segment, where new model launches
from Chinese manufacturers compress resale values rapidly. However, Al
Futtaim's warranty and established BYD network provide a floor absent in
grey-import alternatives. Blade LFP chemistry resists thermal capacity fade in
hot climates, supporting battery longevity. Three-year resale is estimated at
45–55% of purchase price.
