2025 BMW iX Review UAE
Battery Spec
The xDrive40 uses a
76.6 kWh NMC 811 battery, while the xDrive50 and M60 share a larger 111.5 kWh
pack. Both are supplied by CATL and Samsung SDI. BMW's integrated battery
thermal management system actively cools and heats the cells to maintain
optimal operating temperature — important for UAE summer conditions where
ambient temperatures exceed 50°C.
Real-World Range
The xDrive50's 630
km WLTP claim drops to approximately 475–535 km in UAE summer driving with
sustained AC load. The xDrive40's 425 km WLTP translates to roughly 320–360 km
in similar conditions. Motorway cruising at 120–140 km/h reduces range further
due to the iX's tall body profile. The M60's 566 km WLTP falls to approximately
425–480 km in summer heat.
Home Charging
All variants charge
at 11 kW via Type 2 AC. The xDrive40 completes a full charge in approximately
eight hours; the xDrive50 and M60 require roughly 10.75 hours. At DEWA's
residential rate of AED 0.23/kWh, a full xDrive50 charge costs approximately
AED 25.65. In Abu Dhabi at the expatriate rate of AED 0.27/kWh, the same charge
costs approximately AED 30.10.
Public Fast Charging
DC fast charging via
CCS2 reaches 150 kW on the xDrive40 and 195 kW on the xDrive50 and M60.
Compatible UAE networks include DEWA Green Charger, E2GO (including the Saih
Shuaib hub on the E11), UAEV in the Northern Emirates, and GreenParking. Tesla
Supercharger access is not currently available for the iX in the UAE market.
2025
BMW iX — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
The iX cabin uses
sustainably sourced materials including open-pore wood, recycled polyester, and
olive-leaf-tanned leather on higher trims. Rear legroom is generous at this
price point, comfortably seating two adults with adequate headroom despite the
panoramic glass roof. The flat floor benefits rear middle-seat passengers on
shorter journeys.
Driver Comfort
The curved display
combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch central
touchscreen in a single panel angled towards the driver. The driving position
is commanding without feeling excessively high. Steering adjusts for rake and
reach. The head-up display is standard on the xDrive50 and M60, projecting
speed and navigation data.
AC Performance
The standard heat
pump aids efficiency in both cooling and heating cycles. Four-zone climate
control is available on higher trims; dual-zone is standard. Cabin cool-down
from 55°C+ takes approximately five to seven minutes. Remote pre-conditioning
via the My BMW app is standard. Ventilated front seats are optional — not
standard — which is a notable omission at this price in the UAE market.
Luggage
Boot capacity is 500
litres with the rear seats upright, expanding to 1,750 litres with seats
folded. The load lip is flat and the boot floor is level. No frunk is available
— the front compartment houses the electric motor and associated hardware.
Infotainment
iDrive 8 powers the
14.9-inch curved touchscreen with full Arabic language support for menus and
navigation. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Over-the-air
updates keep the system current. BMW Maps includes charging route planning with
real-time charger availability — useful for longer inter-emirate trips. A
Harman Kardon surround sound system is standard on the xDrive50 and M60.
Safety
The iX scored five
stars in Euro NCAP testing (2021). Six airbags are standard across all
variants. The ADAS suite includes AEB with pedestrian detection, adaptive
cruise with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear
cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree surround camera. BMW's Driving Assistant
Professional package adds highway assistant and traffic jam assist on higher
trims.
How Does it Drive?
The iX drives with a
refinement that belies its 2.5-tonne kerb weight. NVH isolation is exceptional
— wind and road noise remain subdued at 120 km/h. Forward visibility is
excellent; the slim A-pillars and large windscreen provide clear sightlines.
The rear three-quarter view is adequate, assisted by the standard 360-degree
camera system.
Performance
The M60 dispatches
0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds — decisively quick for a vehicle of this size. The
xDrive50 at 4.6 seconds provides confident overtaking on the E11 and Sheikh
Zayed Road. Even the xDrive40 at 6.1 seconds feels adequately brisk in daily
driving. All variants deliver smooth, linear power delivery without the
abruptness found in some competitors.
Braking
Regenerative braking
is adjustable via paddle shifters with three intensity levels. Adaptive
recuperation automatically adjusts regen intensity based on traffic conditions
and navigation data. One-pedal driving is available at the strongest setting,
bringing the vehicle to a complete stop. Brake pedal feel blends regen and
hydraulic inputs seamlessly.
Autopilot
Adaptive cruise with
stop-and-go performs reliably on UAE motorways. Highway assistant maintains
lane position and speed with minimal driver input on clearly-marked multi-lane
roads. Lane-keep assist provides gentle corrective steering. No Level 3 autonomous
capability is offered in the UAE-specification vehicle.
Handling
Air suspension is
optional on the xDrive40 and xDrive50, standard on the M60. Rear-axle steering
(optional) sharpens low-speed manoeuvrability — the turning circle tightens
noticeably in car parks and tight residential streets. At motorway speeds,
rear-axle steering improves stability. The iX fits comfortably in standard
multi-storey car park spaces despite its width.
Ride
On standard adaptive
suspension, the iX rides with composed, well-damped comfort over UAE's
predominantly smooth urban surfaces. Speed bumps are absorbed without
harshness. Air suspension (where fitted) adds adjustable ride height and a
noticeably more plush low-speed ride. Rear passenger comfort is excellent on
long motorway journeys.
Warranty and After-Sales
AGMC and Abu Dhabi
Motors provide a two-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty — shorter than
some competitors in this segment. The battery warranty extends to eight years
or 160,000 km, which is in line with industry standards. BMW's UAE service
network is mature and well-established, with certified high-voltage technicians
at centres in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Sharjah. Service intervals are
condition-based, typically every 30,000 km or two years.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Grey import iX units
may lack UAE-specific software calibration including regional charging
protocols, Arabic navigation mapping, and summer thermal management
optimisation. Insurance loading for grey imports runs 15–25% above standard
rates; some insurers decline EV grey imports entirely. Government incentives —
free Salik tag, green parking, reduced registration fees — apply exclusively to
official agency vehicles. BMW's high-voltage battery and drivetrain diagnostics
require dealer-specific tools unavailable through independent workshops.
Cost of Ownership
At AED
390,000–585,000, the iX competes with the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and Audi Q8
e-tron. For a buyer covering 20,000 km per year on home charging, annual
electricity cost is estimated at AED 900–1,300 depending on the variant, versus
AED 12,000–16,000 for a petrol X5. Combined running cost savings are estimated
at AED 10,000–14,000 per year.
Insurance estimates
through official UAE channels range from AED 15,000 to AED 23,000 annually. BMW
condition-based servicing reduces visit frequency; annual service costs are
estimated at AED 3,000–5,000. Government incentives include a free Salik tag (toll
charges of AED 4–6 per gate still apply), green parking bay access with a
four-hour session limit, and reduced RTA registration fees.
Depreciation risk is
moderate-to-high. The incoming LCI facelift — rebranded as xDrive45, xDrive60,
and M70 — arrives in the Middle East in 2025, which will accelerate
pre-facelift residual value decline. BMW's established UAE brand presence and
dealer network provide some buffer. Three-year resale is estimated at 50–60% of
purchase price, slightly below petrol X5 benchmarks due to EV market
uncertainty and the facelift transition.

BMW iX — Standard Equipment
2025 BMW iX — Final Verdict
The BMW iX delivers
the refinement, technology, and motorway comfort expected of a flagship
electric SUV in the UAE. The xDrive50 offers the best balance of range,
performance, and equipment for family buyers, while the M60 caters to those
demanding outright performance. The incoming LCI facelift may create attractive
pre-facelift deals. Villa residents and long-distance commuters seeking a
premium, well-supported electric SUV should book a test drive at AGMC or Abu
Dhabi Motors.
