2025 Audi Q8 e-tron Review UAE
Battery Spec
Two NCA (nickel
cobalt aluminium) battery packs are offered: a 95 kWh gross (89 kWh net) unit
in the Q8 50, and a 114 kWh gross (106 kWh net) pack in the Q8 55 and SQ8.
Samsung SDI prismatic cells employ stacking technology that yields
approximately 20% more active material than the original e-tron. A 12-year
anti-corrosion warranty underscores battery housing durability.
Real-World Range
WLTP figures of 491
km (Q8 50) and 582 km (Q8 55) translate to roughly 370–465 km under UAE summer
conditions, factoring a 20–25% heat-related reduction. Highway driving at
120–140 km/h with climate control at full draw will sit closer to the lower
end. The SQ8, despite its larger battery, returns a modest 494 km WLTP due to
its tri-motor powertrain and heavier kerb weight.
Home Charging
On an 11 kW Type 2
wall box — standard UAE villa installation — the Q8 50 charges from flat to
full in approximately nine hours, while the 114 kWh variants require around
10.5 hours. A full charge on Dubai DEWA rates (AED 0.23/kWh) costs roughly AED
20.50 (Q8 50) or AED 24.40 (Q8 55/SQ8). An optional 22 kW on-board charger
halves these times.
Public Fast Charging
The Q8 50 peaks at
150 kW DC, while the Q8 55 and SQ8 reach 170 kW via CCS2, achieving 10–80% in
28–31 minutes. DEWA Green Charger, E2GO, UAEV, and GreenParking stations across
the UAE are fully compatible. Tesla Supercharger access requires a CCS adapter
where available. Current UAE DC infrastructure rarely exceeds 150 kW, meaning
the full 170 kW peak may only be utilised at select E2GO ultra-rapid sites.

Audi Q8 e-tron — Battery & Charging
Cabin Comfort
Rear legroom is
generous across all variants, comfortably seating three adults. Step-in height
is moderate for an SUV, aided by the flat battery floor. Premium leather and
Alcantara trim, ambient lighting, and four-zone climate control create a cabin
that rivals the Mercedes EQE SUV in material quality. Rear passengers benefit
from heated seats and USB-C ports as standard on higher trims.
Driver Comfort
The driving position
is typically Audi — low, well-bolstered, with extensive electric seat
adjustment and memory function. Steering adjusts for both rake and reach. The
12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit Plus sits directly in the driver's line of sight, and
the dual-touchscreen MMI system, while fingerprint-prone, is logically
arranged.
AC Performance
Four-zone climate
control with separate rear controls performs adequately under UAE summer
conditions, though the large glass panoramic roof can introduce noticeable
cabin heat. Remote pre-conditioning via the myAudi app is essential for midday
starts. Ventilated front seats are available as an option — a notable omission
from the standard specification given the climate.
Luggage
Boot space stands at
569 litres (SUV) or 528 litres (Sportback), expanding to 1,637 litres and 1,567
litres respectively with the rear seats folded. A 62-litre front storage
compartment (frunk) adds practical stowage for charging cables. The flat load
floor and wide aperture make the Q8 e-tron family-holiday capable.
Infotainment
A 10.1-inch upper
touchscreen handles navigation, media, and connectivity, while an 8.6-inch
lower screen manages climate and vehicle settings. Wireless Apple CarPlay and
Android Auto are standard. Arabic language support in the MMI interface remains
limited — navigation maps cover the region, but full Arabic UI localisation is
not confirmed. An optional virtual exterior mirror system replaces conventional
mirrors with cameras and 7-inch OLED cabin displays.
Safety
Euro NCAP awarded
the platform five stars (91% adult, 85% child occupant protection). Standard
ADAS includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, AEB with pedestrian
detection, lane departure warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. A 360-degree
camera system and park assist plus are available on higher specifications. Six
airbags protect occupants, with side curtain coverage front and rear.
How Does it Drive?
The Q8 e-tron
delivers a composed, refined driving experience that prioritises comfort over
sportiness. Visibility is excellent from the elevated seating position, and the
electrically assisted steering provides adequate feedback without being overly
communicative. It feels every bit a luxury cruiser rather than a performance
SUV — even in the SQ8 guise.
Performance
The Q8 50 reaches
100 km/h in 6.0 seconds — brisk enough for UAE highway merging. The SQ8's
tri-motor setup dispatches the sprint in 4.5 seconds with noticeably more
urgency. At 120 km/h on Sheikh Zayed Road, wind noise is well suppressed thanks
to acoustic glazing, though tyre roar from the 21-inch wheels is present on
coarser road surfaces.
Braking
Regenerative braking
offers adjustable intensity via steering-wheel paddles, though true one-pedal
driving is not available — the car does not creep to a complete stop on regen
alone. Brake feel is progressive and predictable, with strong stopping power from
the ventilated disc setup.
Autopilot
Adaptive cruise
control with stop-and-go handles Dubai traffic effectively, maintaining lane
position through gentle curves. Lane centring is competent but occasionally
requires driver intervention on sharply marked interchanges. No Level 2+
autonomous system is offered; the system remains firmly in the Level 2 assist
category.
Handling
Standard adaptive
air suspension maintains composure through high-speed direction changes, and
the low centre of gravity from the floor-mounted battery pack keeps body roll
in check. Low-speed manoeuvrability is acceptable for a 4.9-metre SUV, with the
360-degree camera aiding multi-storey car park navigation. The turning circle,
however, is not class-leading.
Ride
Air suspension
delivers a cosseting ride at highway speeds, absorbing expansion joints and
lane changes with minimal disturbance. Urban speed bumps and rougher secondary
roads are handled with typical Audi compliance. Rear passengers will find the
ride particularly comfortable on longer inter-emirate journeys between Dubai
and Abu Dhabi.
Warranty and After-Sales
Al Nabooda
Automobiles (Dubai and Northern Emirates) and Ali & Sons (Abu Dhabi)
provide the standard Audi warranty: three years on the vehicle, extendable to
five years. The high-voltage battery carries an eight-year / 160,000 km
warranty, with a 12-year corrosion warranty on the body. Service centres
operate across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Al Ain. As a discontinued model, parts
availability warrants monitoring — though Audi's global aftermarket network
remains robust.
Grey Import vs Official Dealer
Al Nabooda has
issued an explicit public warning regarding unauthorised Q8 e-tron imports
flooding the UAE market. Grey imports carry no manufacturer warranty, may be
excluded from critical software updates, and parts supply requires official
country authorisation from Audi AG. Insurance premiums for grey-imported EVs
typically carry a 15–25% loading, and government incentives — including the
free Salik tag and reduced registration fees — may not apply.
Cost of Ownership
At AED 419,900 to
AED 530,000+, the Q8 e-tron competes directly with the BMW iX xDrive50 and
Mercedes EQE SUV. A full home charge on the 114 kWh battery costs approximately
AED 24.40 at DEWA's AED 0.23/kWh rate, or AED 28.60 on Abu Dhabi ADDC expat
tariffs (AED 0.27/kWh). Based on 20,000 km annually with an average consumption
of 22 kWh/100 km, annual electricity costs range from AED 1,012 (Dubai) to AED
1,188 (Abu Dhabi) — a significant saving versus an equivalent petrol Audi Q8 at
approximately AED 12,000–14,000 in fuel.
Insurance estimates
for the Q8 e-tron sit between AED 8,500 and AED 12,000 annually, depending on
the variant and driver profile. Service intervals are extended relative to ICE
models, with major savings on brake and fluid maintenance. UAE government incentives
include a free Salik tag (toll charges still apply at AED 4–6 per gate),
designated green parking bays with a four-hour limit, and reduced RTA
registration fees.
Depreciation is the
primary concern. As a discontinued model built on an older platform, residual
values are expected to decline more steeply than newer-generation rivals. The
arrival of Audi's PPE-platform models (Q6 e-tron, next-generation Q8) will further
pressure used values. Buyers should factor this into any three-to-five-year
ownership calculation and consider extended warranty coverage for added
protection.
